I am currently working on what I call a “cross over Pattern” a saltwater fly than is equally effective for large brown trout and lm bass and sm bass. The pattern calls for brown craft fur
and brown Icelandic sheep hair. I do not have any Icelandic sheep hair. I do have some black bear hair that I can sub but I wonder if the difference in hair type might affect the fly’s motion when retrieved through the water. Any suggestions or ideas you can share? As usual, thanks in advance for your help.

Yup, quite a difference between the two. I’d probably substitute with a synthetic like Slinky Fiber.

I have actually started using synthetic wigs for tying streamers and find that it works very well. I buy them new at the local Goodwill store and have more colors than any other synthetics I have. PM me your address and I’ll send you some brown to try out.

I bought a cheap weave hair piece several years ago, they are also available at place like Dollar Tree in the toys and games area.

Congo Fiber from the Mad Scientist would work. I’ve been there. :smiley:
