Need advice on a guide for December near Denver, CO

Looking for wisdom - I’m heading to Denver, CO for Christmas and would like to try FFing for trout. I cast okay, and roll-cast well, but know nothing about trout (always fished for perch/bass). I think that buying knowledge is probably the best way to start, so I am looking for a guide in the Denver area. Any advice on locations and/or guide services would be appreciated.

-my rods are a 2wt and a 4/5-

Thanks,
jc

Here is a link to a website called Colorado On The Fly. In it you will find links to many Colorado fly fishing sites including fly shops and guides. Personally I would call a fly shop and arrange for a guided float.

Hope you have a great trip.

Hate to rain (or snow) on your parade, and I’m sure there are plenty of fishing opportunities east of the mountains at that time of year, but bear in mind its’ pretty much mid winter and there’s a good chance that the weather may prevent an enjoyable angling experience. That’s a long winded way of saying that it could be snowing and cold.
Having said that, I’d bring skis or snowboard just in case.
Dave in Steamboat

try the blue quill angler

or give steve johnson a call at the royal stevens shop. tell em norm sent ya.

it sure can be nasty in december in colorado. is that your only date to fish there???

Come on guys!!! There are many tail waters in Colorado that remain open even in December. The South Platte, Frying Pan, Blue River below the dam at Silverthorne, the Arkansas below Pueblo reservoir just to name a few. If you call Pat Dorsey at the Blue Quill angler in Evergreen, I’m sure he could get you into fish!Check the Colorado Fishing Network web sight for other leads. Ther are many days in Colorado in the winter when it is possible not only to fish, but to play golf as well>Try Cutthroat andglers in Silver thorne. If you want to fish, it can be done !!!

Thanks for the advice. December is the only time I will have available for the next 6 months or so. I only go out to see the in-laws, so I try to space the visits out as much as possible  ; )

Thanks again!

I knew I’d catch greif from someone on my post … I just wanted to be devil’s advocate on the possibility of bad weather. Christmas can be -20 or +60, bluebird day and calm or driving blizzard. Think positive and you’ll be fine.
Or bring skis or snowboard and come up to the high country and see me.
