Nectarine SBS

Doug Andres’ take on a white miller caddis; no idea where the name came from. Change colors/size to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 280 #14
thread - MFC 8/0 sand
rib - x-fine wire gold
abdomen/head - dubbing cream
hackle - barred cream (undersize by 2)
wing - mallard dyed woodduck (wonderwing style)
antennae - stripped hackle stems (barred cream)

Part 1

Mash down barb, start thread; tie in rib, wrap back to bend

dub thread, dub abdomen

tie in hackle; wrap back to bend

capture tip of hackle with wire; wrap through hackle, helicopter end and tie off

trim hackle flat on top

Part 2

prep mallard feather (pull fibers back from tip); tie in and adjust length (a bit past the bend)

repeat; trim butts and smooth with thread

tie in antennae (optional, but cool)

dub head, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

Scott

Great, simple looking fly, Scott, although I know it’s not simple with those wings. Will it float in fast or broken water or is it a mostly slow water fly?

Joe

Joe,

Haven’t fished it yet, but I’d guess it’s more of a flatwater fly (the white miller hatch is common on the Firehole). The wings really weren’t too hard to get right, especially using the stiffer mallard flank feathers on this fly.

Scott
