Hi, Can anyone advise which is the nearest trout stream from the Monterey, Carmel area? Any options nearby besides driving all the way to Redding? Is it a year round fishery? Thanks.
How about the upper Carmel River? Small fish and a long hike from what I have heard. Never been there myself.
The Carmel River should be dust and sand about this time of year. There is the Big Sur River just down the coast a bit but check for open season.
If all else fails , there is a flyshop about 5 miles East of Carmel on Carmel Valley Road whose name escapes me at the moment. The proprieter there is the president of the flyfishing organization that rules that area.
If all else fails, visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium, you’ll love it.

PS. Bring your camera, extra batteries and a 2GB card . You’ll need it along the coastal highway (CA 1).
I’d rather be in Wyoming!

Thanks! I’ll bring along an 8wt saltwater outfit just in case the trout stream doesn’t work out. Best Regards.
Bring your saltwater stuff. You will have to travel far to get close to some trout water there.
The surf fly fishing up and down the coast can keep you fishing all you want all around Monterey. You can even venture off coast if you can find or rent a charter. Good luck.
Living large in the Southwest.
