NE Ohio fisherfolks - I need recommendations

Any canoe liveries that you would recommend for the Rocky, Cuyahoga, or Chagrin? Thanks in advance.

Raw,

I don’t fish any of the local rivers from any watercraft. I mostly wade along the Chagrin and the Grand. I floated the upper Cuyahoga a many years back from livery called Camp Hi.
Not sure when you are planning a trip, but the Chagrin is very low right now. I ride over it daily. I doubt you could float the Chagrin or the Rocky right now. You may want to consider the Grand, but I suspect even that is low. I know from driving out in Ashtabula county that there are a couple of liveries, but I don’t know their names off hand.

You might check with ASM on the Steelheadsite.com. He’s the Aquatic Biologist for the Cleveland Metroparks and is very well connected with Lake & Geauga Metroparks. I don’t believe there are any liveries on the Chagrin or the Rock since they are both such small watersheds. I canoed the Grand on Saturday from Grand River Landing on State Street in Fairport, up to the Uniroyal hole and back. Had to get out twice to pull the canoe through shallow riffles. Very low and very slow right now. Really need some rain to cleanse the rivers and get some flow.

Good Luck

Joe

Hey Raw,

Being a lifelong Westsider of Cleveland (re: Rocky River) I can with 99.9% certainty that there are no liveries on the Rocky River. Now the Rocky River does run thru what we call the Emerald Necklace. It is a “gem” of a place that encircles Cleveland throughout Cuyahoga County. It is taken care of by the Cleveland Metroparks. There are a couple of lakes up here that are fed by the RR and they do have boat rentals.

There is a Rocky River fishing report you can access from the above site; but just in case time is not on your side:

“…or if you have any further questions regarding fishing in the Cleveland Metroparks, you may contact Aquatic Biologist Mike Durkalec at (440) 331-8017 or md@clevelandmetroparks.com.” (taken from the fishing report)

As Joe and Mike said the rivers up here are running low and slow right now. This site can give you all of Ohio’s rivers info:

I’m not trying to disuade you from visiting with gloom and doom reports. Trust me there is alot up here to do, and whatever you chose you will have a great time.
