Nation's Silvertip SBS

A vintage pattern from Kamloops tyer/guide Bill Nation.

hook - Mustad 9671 #8
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail - golden pheasant tippets
rib - oval tinsel silver
body - back half silver tinsel, front half Uni Stretch black
throat - guinea hen
underwing - golden pheasant tippets
wing - turkey tail

Part 1

mash barb, start thread 1 eye width back from eye; tie in rib, wrap to bend

prep pheasant tippet, measure (gap width past bend); tie in/trim

tie in tinsel at 50% (of wrapped shank) mark, wrap to tail and back; tie off/trim

tie in Uni Stretch at front index point, wrap to tinsel and back; tie off/trim

Part 2

counterwrap rib; tie off/trim

tie in (folded) guinea feather by tip, wrap, tie off/trim

stroke fibers down/back, cover with thread wraps

measure (tips to bend) and tie in a few GP tippets on each side

Part 3

prep 2 slips of turkey tail (gap width), measure (tips just past tail), fold, tie down (it really helps if you wax the thread; secures it on top and keeps it from torqueing around)/trim

whip finish, SHHAN (yes, that little thread fiber at the tail/tinsel bothers me)
