I long ago came to the same conclusions on almost every point made there, but one slight quibble I have is that fishing upstream does confer one advantage, in some streams. Wading on a silty bottom muddies the water below you. If you’re lucky, you kicking up enough food that the fish won’t care (San Juan shuffle, anyone?) but you’ll certainly alert the fish to your presence. This has nothing to do with the fish’s field of vision, and can be a good way to scatter fish in a previously clear pool post-haste. (I know, I’ve done it enough.)

IMO, #10 is the single most important key to nymphing. If your indy is moving with the bubble line, your fly isn’t on the bottom. Add weight and/or move your indy up your leader closer to your line.
