Mylar Tubing Question

Question about mylar tubing, want to try tying a few patterns using this material. But, what I see at the local Bass Pro is a mylar tubing with what looks like several strands of cotton string in the middle.

Is this the same product? Is there something else?

Do you remove the cotton strings when you cut off a section for a fly?

i get a bunch of it from joanne fabrics and i just pull the string out.

Yup. Just pull the string out.OH, if you’re lucky, you’ll find some with antron as the core. Pull it out and use it.

If you want to do spoon flies you can take the string out ans heat it with a iron, but you need to use the large size for that.

I plan on making some of them my self and got the tubing, jut been procrastinating too much.

Wait------first cut to size then pull the cotton string out. Hate to see you just pull all of it out to begin with. Yes it much cheaper at the sewwing dept of a craft store.BILL

At the sewing or craft store you can also get better colours. There is silver and white, or gold and white. I like the pink, silver and white for rainbow trout/dace imitations. White and gold for shiners. It is also cheaper at the craft store - like 30’ for $3.00.

Thanks everyone, I think that clears up my questions. I’ll head out to the craft store when they open this morning and take a look for the stuff.

Never using the stuff before, was not sure what it really looked like - not to mention having to pull the strings out. Now it all comes together.
