I recently finished up building a new rod. This is a 4 piece 6’6" 2wt built on a baston forecast blank. The guides are TiCh Silver & so is the reel seat hardware with a walnut seat. The thread wraps are white and coated with a light blue dyed epoxy. I think this looks good over the dark blue blank. It was really tough to wrap those tiny guides on that tiny blank!!!This is my “blueline special” It breaks down to 21" (although the rod tube I bought for it is 23")- Its definliely packable! I tried writing on the blank this time over the decals I used last time- Dont know which I like better. The decals definitely look more professional, but the writing (even with my poor penmanship) puts a personal touch to it. It has a foldable hook keeper and single foot guides & it cast great!!! The writing is in silver and says “6’6” 2wt - Brannon- Pittman- 2009-02" wrapped around the tiny blank.
I’m a chemist @ a polymer coatings lab. We manafacture pigments for polyesters/epoxies/urethanes/etc. It really very simple - just add a touch of liquid pigment concentrate to the rod finish when mixing. I like to keep it translucent and put it over white thread - it gives a unique pastel look. I have also been playing with metallics & pearlscents----no telling what I will use on our upcoming rod swap - I hope someone is prepared for something “out of the box”
Why is it then, that if you’re applying the epoxy over the white thread the thread doesn’t go translucent and the color is a translucent light blue without being able to se the thread wraps?
