My latest creation

I was inspired by The simple ants that Rick created to tie this one. It is very simple to tie. I just call it a Blue Dragon Fly. Thanks Rick I always appreciate your suggestions and help. John

Nice tie John. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you and most of the credit should go to Rick as the use of the material was his idea. John

Nice dragon fly. I can see an answer to my semented tail hex pattern. Wont be long now till we see the first non-skid shelf liner swap!

Greg

Thanks Greg, and I agree I can see that coming up by someone. John

bassman…how about tossing it in some water and letting us know how it lands…does it float upright?

I’ve tied something similar…not this material but with damselfly type wings and there were some issues re: how they would land.

Duck I just did that, I tossed it into a bowl of water 5 times each time it landed upright when thrown from about a foot away. It is still floating upright after approx. 10 mins. Of course I am sure it would also depend on the hook you use. This one is tied on an Eagle Claw. LO52 size 6 hook. John

Thanks, John:cool:

Your very welcome duck. I would also say that maybe even the wing material would affect how it lands and floats. The Wings on this one are made of a material called Whisper, that I bought in the wrapping paper section of Michaels. It comes in different colors. It has a lot of shine to it. John

Bassman,
Interesting winging material. Is it pretty waterproof? Probably make good mayfly wings and case back on caddis patterns.

Dave

Dave it seems to be some what water proof. I just rough cut the wings to shape out of a piece of it that was folded in half. I left the fist one I tied in a bowl of water for about 15 mins total and it never did sink. I agree on the mayfly wings and caddis backs. John

What is the body made of, foam? If so, you could try putting lead wire (a little) underneath if you think you’d have problems casting in wind. It wouldn’t affect the floating if you put a minimal amount on.

The body is mady of Non Slip Shelving Material. It does cast pretty good. I do like the idea that it floats. The body keeps its shape real well. John

I really like the looks of that fly John. I just have to know how it will fish. Please let us know.

Thanks,
Sean

I will be going out this week end I hope and will let you all know how it turns out. John

Nice Dragon John, like the lines, wings and colour. I also like the shine that the Whisper gives to the wings.

Jeanne

Thanks Jeanne It is an experiment I am going to try out tomorrow. John

Ok I hit the river yesterday with just this fly. I went just after 10AM. In 4 hours I caught 5 LMB in the 10" to 16" range and 12 Gills up to 10". It was a fun outing. But I think it was more the fish were hungry then it was my skill. But I do think this is going to be a good fly under the right conditions. Not bragging here just letting all of you that are interested in the fly, know how it worked for me. I did not try it out on the trout waters here yet. Thanks to all of you for your comments on this fly. And a special thanks to Rick, for his suggestions with this material. This was an unusual day for me, in that I do not normally catch that much in an outing. John

John,
Any more news?

No more updates yet Duck, It has been a bit to hot on my waters to fish lately. John
