My 2wt 4pc Forecast Bluegill Rod Is Finally Done!

The wraps are not perfect and neither was my application of the Flex-Coat High Build but they are clear and bright yellow just like I wanted them. The guides are straight as I can get them and they won’t be coming off until they are cut off, So; I Am Happy!!!

I’ll clean it up and sign it later after I catch my first fish. I went out for thirty minutes during my lunch hour today and it works just fine. I saved a consderable amount of money compared to buying one similar rod so I put that into a nice reel with a good drag.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my questions and thanks to Castwell and Al Cambell for their help and inspiration!

God Bless
Greg

Nice build! I’'ve never seen a rod with yellow wraps, but it matches your flyline. This is the same rod I bought for my first build, and I’ll be bringing it to the Fish-In just to play with it. What are you building next?

I’m working on a 9’ 2pc 5wt for my wife. It’s a black blank with red metalic thread. I actually have had it done long before I started the 2wt but I wanted to learn a little more about epoxying the threads before I finish hers since I want it to be pretty for her. I think that I am going to go back and rewrap the guides after a do a little filing so the wraps turn out a little nicer. I’m also going to build a wrapping fixture because after wrapping two rods I have a pretty good idea of what I need to do a better job.

Here are a couple of pictures of the wrapper I built. As you can see, the angled supports were added after I built the original unit. This was prompted by a design I saw at the show in Warren, MI in March. The “wedge” holds the blank in place without unraveling when you need to use your hands for something else, and has proved invaluable to me. Good Luck.
