Cherokee Morning Song
Wi Na De Ya Ho Wi Na De Ya
Wi Na De Ya
Ho Ho Ho Ho
He Ya Ho
I am of the Great Spirit, It is so I am of the Great Spirit
I am of the Great Spirit
It is so
I have loved her music all of my life but had no idea we were both Cherokee. Here is some more music of Rita’s that i listen to on the way to the water and while tying:
and of course “Your Love is Lifting Me Higher” and “The Things You Do” are favorites too. I used to be a very serious metal head but, to me, fly fishing is about getting in touch with nature and my inner self. It is all about being calm and relaxed, a tranquil heart and soul. Nowhere do I feel more in touch with creation and my place in it than when I am on the water or in the woods. I find this music enhances that feeling.
So, what do you listen to on the way to the stream?
There is no better pre-fishing music than Pink Floyd. Tired of using the same old flies in the same old ways? Free your mind with a little Floyd! I’m not a huge fan of some of the really off beat stuff (Ummagumma, Piper at the Gates, Atom Heart Mother) but most of their music is epic!
I could say this same thing about any outdoor activity though. Best pre-climb music? Pink Floyd. Best hiking music? Pink Floyd. You see the pattern obviously.
Oh, best road trip music? By far and away Pink Floyd. Led Zeppelin comes in at a close second though.
Right now in the Matrix I have SRV (Steve Ray Vaughn), Van Morrison their from my last trip.
I will bring along - the Doors, The Who, Led Zepplin, The Stones, Lots of Blues, The Animals, AC/DC, Steve Earle …
My Jeep does not have a CD player so I listen to the Radio and when the signals fades I listen for weird noises coming from the Jeep:(
When I am tying I will listen to about the same…
BUT when there is a Hockey game on I will listen to that, there is just something about a hockey game on the radio that takes a person away from the real world and to a nice place…
PS: for all you Baseball fans, It is the same for that game, I just spend too much time outside in the summer to listen that often…
I love ice hockey. I am afraid to listen to “He Shoots, He Scores” or any of the Penguins Mike Lange play by play while around dangerous and expensive gear.
It’s different on an old transistor radio, the sound is mellower and some how softer…
I have a surround sound system for my TV and a “sport” setting that boosts the level and it takes away from the feel…
Next time there is a hockey game on the “Radio” listen to it from an older radio and then some of it from a digital system and or your TV surround sound
No comparison… I bet it even changes the sound of a baseball game…
I have enough old time country to drive from K Falls to Vegas without hearing the same song twice by the same artist. So what do I usually listen to when I go fishing: The hum of my tires and the thoughts in my empty head. Peace & quite prevail.
I got my MP3 Sansa e260 for less than $70 bucks and then got Amy one for about $45 bucks off of EBay. Bought a cheap set of MP3 speakers and travel kit from EBay too. Also got a generic cassette adapter for the deck in my car. You know, the cassette cartridge with the headphone plug on it.
For those long drives I’m more inclined to slip in a book on tape. My car’s of a vintage that doesn’t include a CD player so it’s getting harder to find decent books on cassettes. I’ve been seeing more books on the personal (MP3?) players at the local library and have been meaning to give them a try. Someday I’ll have a vehicle with a CD player and then when you see me roll in for a for a day of fishing I’ll be preceeded by the skirel of my favorite insturment - the Bag Pipes!
On Saturdays and Sundays, early in the morning, (when no college students listen) the local college radio station plays… Polka  Nothing like a little polka music to get you jazzed up in the morning
Wow what a mix of music, personaly I prefer to listen to the Sex pistols or Green day, but sometimes a bit of lounge music. Another great band for driving music is the Alabama 3, you know the ones who did the song from the Sopranos, they are realy good.
Of course the wife objects to most of my music, so we may even listen to Amy winehouse
When I’m tying, Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons Project, Alison Krauss, mood driven stuff you can melt into without having to pay attention to lyrics too much to get the right groove. It lets you experience the music but still concentrate on the flies.
On the way to the water: Bill Morrissey, Greg Brown, Tom T. Hall, Nanci Griffith, Cowboy Junkies, etc. Music that grounds you in the simple but profound ordinariness of everyday experience. You know, like going fishing.
On the water: wind, birds, my thoughts, splashy rises, my wife’s laughter when she hooks into a good one, you get the idea.
I like listening to Cream, Led Zepplin, Ronny Montrose, Sammy Hagar, older Elton John, Eagles, Bob Seger, The Who, The Doobie Brothers, Blue Oyster Cult, Foo Fighters and classical music of any kind.
