Muddy Waters?

We just got a pretty torrential downpour here - but only lasted for an hour and a half or so, and then it was back to muggy and sticky as usual. I took the dogs for a walk and a swim this afternoon and the water was high and murky. I’m wondering - how does murky water affect the senses of fish? I mean, I’m guessing they’d still be able to pick up on the large “plop” of a terrestrial, but how does it affect their vision? Do I have a little leniency as far as shape and size of my fly since the fish can’t really see it anyway?

LetortRun,

You’d be surprised what fish can detect in cloudy water

I remember one trip to fish a small stream in southern Germany. Several days of downpour had left the stream so colored a hand held four inches under the fild would totally disappear.

Yet… the dry fly fishing (#16 dries) during this trip was absolutely awesome!

Go figure…

Cheers,
Hans W
