I’ve been searching the web, and I’ve had a tough time finding the exact recipe. I happen to look at some originally tied Idylwilde Anato-mays and it seems like it’s the following:
(Hare’s Ear Anato-May Example)
Hook: 1xl nymph/wet hook Size 8-20
Thread: 6/0 or 8/b black
Head: Black Cyclops Bead
Tails: 3 pheasant tail fibers
Ribbing: Copper wire
Abdomen and Thorax: Hare’s Ear Dubbing
Back and Wingcase: 10-12 Black Krystal Flash Fibers
Legs: Black Krystal Flash
In the only site I found that had the recipe (http://www.fisheyesoup.com/article_details/266.html), I beg to differ with the color of the krystal flash. The original flies use black krystal flash, and the peacock color that is suggested is a little too green for my taste. Also it seems like an awful lot of krystal flash goes into the back and thorax… I experimented with different amounts of it, and came to the conclusion that a minimum of 10 fibers were needed for a size 16 hook… wow!! Also, for size 16 and smaller flies the regular krystal flash seems a bit big for the legs, Hareline Co. doesn’t have any midge krystal flash in black, does Wapsi Midge Flash work just as well, because it’s in black?? Has anybody had any tying experience with this pattern that can comment about the recipe or tips?? An awsome nymph pattern from Ken Morrish.
