Morrish May Day (Carnage variation) SBS

Rivers are up around here this time of years; not a place for dubbed-body flies. Fight foam with foam.

Tied here as a Purple Haze; change color/size to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 135 #12
thread - Danville 6/0 purple
core - 20lb mono
tail/underbody - moose body hair
abdomen - 1mm foam purple
wing - Congo Hair white
hackle - grizzly/brown
thorax -dubbing purple

Part 1

put a loop in the end of a piece of mono; tie it in

measure (2x hook length) some moose body; tie in/trim butts

hook loop onto the gallows; wrap hair up the core and back down

double up a hank of CH; tie in by butts (creating a loop up front)

tie in foam strip (1/2 gap width)

Part 2

brush abdomen with Super Glue

wrap foam up (adjusting tension on foam will determine abdomen thickness; going for a chunker here)

brush on a little more Super Glue, wrap back down; tie off/trim

trim out mono; hook CH loop onto the gallows and wrap back towards base of abdomen

tie in hackles

wrap up post (width of thorax) and back down; tie off/trim

dub thread/dub thorax; leave 1 eye width up front free for wing tie down

Part 3

stroke hackle fibers back, pull wing forward over thorax; tie down

pull wing up/back; tie down

whip finish, SHHAN, trim wing
