I have an old econo vise that I picked up years ago, and the thing is just about worn out. I’m trying to decide what to replace it with, and had decided that the DanVise was the one. However, I just spoke with a guy that has one, and he told me that is isn’t as good for flies in size 14 and smaller. I haven’t heard that before, but since 95% of my tying is with the smaller stuff, I’m not sure this is the right vise for me after all. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Any alternatives that you can suggest for a guy that will have to work with a $100 max budget?
I’ve also looked at the H&H EZRotary, but I didn’t see material holders or bobbin holders on it. Are they included or can they be added to that vise?
Thanks.

You may want to check out the vise reviews Bruce Salzburg and I compiled. Recently added (as in two days ago ) are two reviews for sub-$100 vises (HMH Silhouette and Renzetti Apprentise), aside from the earlier vises reviewed which fall into the same price range.
ol’ blue, Have to agree with tyflier on the Danvise. Although I haven’t yet ventured into the size 24 I do tie 20’s fairly often and have yet to have one slip when adjusted properly. The adjustment is merely a screw and easy to use. Mine came with a video. kev
I seldom tie above #14 for trout, and have tied down to #24 on my Danvise without problems. I have also had the vise for nearly 10 years now, so durability isn’t an issue either, at least not for me.
