A friend has acquired a very large piece of dressed moose body hide. Are there many patterns that call for these hairs specifically? The ones I find usually refer to these hairs as options for nymph tails. Thanks.
It is stiff and does not flair much. It’s ideal for dry fly tails. I’ve used it on anything from a Parachute Adams to a Royal Wulff.
Ray,
Go to http://www.danica.com/flytier/ , use the search function for Moose Body Hair. I got around 70 patterns that use it in some form or another.

Swamp donkey makes a great body on a series used here quite a bit, the black, chocolate and white moose. A dry with moose hair tail and body and a matching hackle. It floats well and is tough like deer and elk.
Classic mosquito pattern calls for a moose hair body made with a dark and light hair wrapped to create segments.
Some of it flares better than deer, location, location, location…
It is long enough to make great streamers.
Muddlers with a small ring of moose first makes a darker fly and better, IMO. Just finish the head off with your usual deer hair and it wil look great.
There are lots more…
