Moore's ComparaBuzz SBS

Tom Moore’s embellishment of Gary LaFontaine’s Buzzball, adding wing & shuck from a Sparkledun. I’ll leave up to others to decide whether it’s an improvement or just gilding the lily.

hook - Dai Riki 305 #16
thread - MFC 6/0 hot orange
shuck - Congo Hair amber
hackle - orange, dun, grizzly
wing - deer hair

Part 1

mash barb, start thread at 2/3 mark

clean, stack, measure (shank length) a clump of deer hair

tie in with tips forward; trim butts, set upright with thread wraps in front

tie in CH; fold, wrap to bend, trim (gap width past bend)

tie in grizzly hackle (sized to hook)

tie in orange and dun (use the cheapest stuff if you want since most is going to end up on ther cutting room floor)

Part 2

wrap orange and dun to eye; tie off

trim a bit less than gap width top/bottom and gap width on the sides

wrap grizzly; tie off, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

trim grizzly even with the orange/dun on the op and bottom, leave the sides as-is

Scott

Yes, the additions help, especially if you’re fishing on the Yellowstone and the light’s flat…

Also, purple instead of orange thread and hackle can work like magic.

Seems wrong to me…

How so?
