Well I just got my flies done this weekend for the other swap I’m in and thought it would be fun to do another. Since there aren’t any new swaps I guess I’ll give hosting my own a shot.
How’s this for a swap: A Monster Trout Fly Swap. I’m talking about those big nasty flies you break out every once in a while when you feel like targeting monster trout (a.k.a Hog Hunting). The kind of fly you use for those trout that want some meat in their diet.
Rules are pretty loose on this one. The big nasty’s can be streamers, nymphs, dries - doesn’t matter. Lets just say it must be size 4 hooks or bigger. Some examples: Sculpins, baitfish, mice, giant stones, hexegenia limbata’s, etc…
These big flies can be tedious to tie sometimes so lets limit it to 8 people including myself, with a due date of January 30th.
I’ll jump in as long as yall don’t mind a newbie. I’m thinking a Brook Trout Clouser would be good.
I am changing my clouser pattern to a Rainbow Trout Clouser. I think that this will be a more productive pattern, I know it will be here in East Tennessee.

I’ll bite!
I will tie some big soft-hackle spruce fly type or a big whitefish imitation or maybe a Kelly Gallup fly (“Zoo Cougar”). Well, any way it will be a streamer that I fish here on the Yellowstone River.
Well I spent some time at the bench last night and have decided to tie what I will call the “one-eyed purple people eater”. It should look like a juicy meal for a big hungry trout!
I normally use an old fly box that has been through its paces(preferabbly a lite one to cut down on shipping costs). I have my name and address written on the back of it so it doesnt get mixed up. You can get video cassette sized boxes from the USPS online store so I normally stick the fly box in one of those to use as my return box. After I pay for the postage on that box I then stick the whole shabang into a big manilla envelope to send to the swapmeister. Hope that helps.
