I would definately be interested, even if my brother didn’t drag me! I would possibly suggest something later in the season or even during the winter catch and release season, that way the crowds are non-existant and you have pretty much run of the entire park. There are actually alot of options and opportunities, maybe one day take a trip to Branson and fish Taneycomo, fish the Niangua which the spring runs into, and I think there are some smallmouth rivers around. I also want to recommend the breakfast buffet at the dining lodge, melted cheese, eggs, biscuits and white gravy, pancakes, hash brown, oh and there is some fruit or something also. Very good, as well as healthy! Keep me informed, would be very fun I think.

If you are doing this as an organized event you may want to check with the park officials to see if it requires any permits. I know just a small loose gathering it isn’t required. But, if we draw a large crowd it may be needed.

I’d be interested but as with others am date dependent. As has been mentioned you will have to pick a date and those that can make it will, those previously committed won’t.
Bennet is probably the best suited for a group gathering if for no other reason than the lodging and they do have a fly only area. As cr said, there are no fish in Montauk, go to Bennet.
I’m only an hour from Bennet, Montauk or Maramec but don’t fish any of them, except for the occasional catch and release during winter, due to crowds so I’d be socializin’. If I’m gonna fish, which I’m gonna do this morning in an hour or so, I don’t go to the parks. Rubbing elbows while trying to fish isn’t on my list of things to experience again.

On another website here in MO I already have a loosely organized event planned for the 19th of Sept. That is a Wednesday while the crowds will be lighter at Bennett Springs. I plan on being there Wednesday and Thursday before the weekend crowds start rolling in.If you are interested in that day go to www.ozarkanglers.com and under the sub-forum for Bennett Springs there is a thread started there.

Ok, so it sounds like there is definatley some interest for the fish-in. I am travelling out of town this week, so I will get started on organizing this on Monday. I’ll contact the park and get the skinny there, as well as Jim Rogers, and Charlie Reading to see if they will be able to do a little something for us, and I’ll also see if we can book a part of the restuarant each evening for some fly tying/swaps, and general socializing, if not I’ll figure out a way to get an area to do this.
I’d also like to have a cookout each day, it will probably be a bring your own type BBQ just for simplicity. There are grills all over the park we can use, we’ll just start one and everyone can cook on it. I’ll post lodging and camping details as well as contact information on a more official Fish-In title, probably in the fish in section on this website.
Just for a timeline, I’m looking at sometime in October, I’ll post the official date when I get back.

A fish-in close to home? I may have to trade in my bass bugs for trout flies for a few days. What’s that? There’s small mouth in the Niangua close to Bennett? Even better, count me in! BTW I vote for the week long, or at least long weekend option for those of us who have trouble getting weekends off. I’m getting married Oct. 6th so that might not be a good weekend to run off to a fish-in (although it’s not a bad honeymoon idea 8) ). Other than that I’m wide open.
Noluck, I’m on Ozark Anglers almost every day…but I only check the creek and river forum, never the parks. I’ll have to look at Bennet! Sounds like something I’d like to do!

We would be glad to have you there. We tried putting a small get together for last year but things didn’t pan out. Maybe I announced it too late and didn’t give people enough time to plan. Hopefully this year will be different.

I drove right by your house over the weekend (Sat). Well, close…I was going down F Hwy.
I was headed out to do some fishing. I was doing pretty well until the gully-washer hit.
That gully washer didn’t contain that much rain as far as inches go but it darn sure came in a hurry! I was at Viburnum today and made sure I crossed every creek I could cross on my way home. They still look good! Some up a little, very little, and off color and others look as if they never saw a shower.

Caught my first trout on a flyrod at Bennet Spring. Even got a free T-Shirt when the ketchup in the dining room exploded upon opening. Still have the shirt, …and the vivid memory of that trout. The water was so clear. I remember feeling something on my leg, looking down and seeing a big brown just bumping me. If I can make it work, I’d be there.
