Mike, I had a Mac at one time!

Mike,

I actually used an Apple IIe for years and then switched to a Power Mac for three or four more years. In addition to fly fishing and fly tying, I love computer games. The Mac just got left behind. I was left with 10-20 old titles in Best Buy and couldn’t run any of the hundreds of new games that came out. There was some talk about emulation boards but you had to increase your memory and yada, yada, yada. I switched to PC. I’ve never seen a company with such a major share of the market flush it away with the speed that Apple managed in those early years. Sorry, won’t go back. 8T

I know that others will disagree and that the Mac is now a fine machine.

I love mac and I’ve always had a mac ever since the very first model. I even rebuilt an original 128 mac to run as a 256. It was really great right up until the minute that I fried the power supply. The next time I rebuilt one I remembered to add another fan.

All that maclove aside, macs don’t even come close to a pc on being able to run games. Never have. Doesn’t bother me…I only like MYST anyway.

Hi Dianne,
MYST runs on the PC too! We’ve just finished Myst IV and started Myst V the other night. Oh, to keep this on fishing, there were fish in Myst II!

I don’t play games on the computer (too old to figure them out and lack the hand-eye coordination the kids have), but I will put in my 2 cents here. I fought my son for three years while he told me to dump my PC and go Mac. Finally, in April 2005 I broke down and bought a 17" I-Mac G-5. The best thing I can say about this purchase is that I HAVE NOT HAD A COMPUTER VIRUS IN 19 MONTHS, and I stay connected to the Internet 24/7. I still get all the spam that has imbedded viruses, but they cannot propogate in the Mac. Now, tell me why Bill Gates can’t do the same thing? (rhetorical question)

I now have a confession to make:

“Bless me Father for I have sinned. I covet my wife’s Mack Book.”

“My son, to remove this temptation from your life, go forth and buy yourself a Mac Book Pro, and sin no more.”

“Thank you, Father. I’m headed to the Apple Store!”

Joe

Hello Eight thumbs, yes you are quite right, if you are into games then a P.C. is better, but if you can afford a Playstation or an X Box then they are better again!
I have to say though that Joe Valencic is spot on, I have never had a virus and I have never had to download a patch every week to keep up the virus protection.
I also do not run any firewall or anti virus and “touch wood” so far have had no trouble.
Macs realy do get the job done with no hassle and of course the newer macs will run all the microsoft suite of programs. As well as the vastly better mac ones like indesign and imusic, iphoto and of course photoshop.
Anyhow welcome back.
Mike.
