Mid-July 2021

Made my way back to Iowa this past week. Did some flyfishing.
Hit one or two bodies of water, I caught some bluegills, and Pumpkinseed Sunfish:

some Hybrid Sunfish:

Black Crappie:

and some Largemouth Bass:

Visited a river. Caught Common Shiners:

Creek Chubs:

a Carmine Shiner:

Hornyhead Chubs:

Rock Bass:

Also Green Sunfish (no pictures), and Smallmouth Bass:

Visited some trout streams.
Caught Brook Trout:

And Brown Trout:

Other things seen while fishing:
I think this is a juvenile Common Water Snake or juvenile Northern Watersnake:

I believe this is a Fishing Spider on top, and maybe a Wolf Spider below? Both were rather large.

Pink Milkweed:

Orange Milkweed:

Turk’s Cap Lillies:

Some other kind of Lilly:

You caught a diverse number of fish. Good for you. You got to sample it all.

Nice fishing David - Glad you made it back.

Glad you had so much fun.

Nice!!! (10 characters)

As usual, a nice variety of fish Dave. Never saw those Carmine Shiners. They have quite a mouth for a small fish. Kind of crazy they attacked that Bugger. Good job – great photos.

Thanks fellas!
I was surprised by that Carmine Shiner as well. You never know what might hit!
I was happy to add 8 species to my 2021 list on this trip to Iowa…I’m up to 42 species on flies so far this year! Probably won’t get many more, but I’m happy.

Absolutely fantastic Dave! We REALLY like reading ALL your posts…
