Michigan Stimi (Ansel Adams variation) SBS

My kingdom for a black nickel hook.

hook - Dai Riki 280 #8
thread - UTC 140 black
tail/body - pronghorn hair white
rib - tying thread
underwing - Krystal Flash black
wing - pronghorn hair white
thorax - Ice Dub black
hackle - grizzly (undersize by 1)

Part 1

Mash barb, start thread at 60% mark; wrap to point above barb and back

Clean, stack, measure (gap width past the end of the thread wraps)

Trim butts, spin bobbin to tighten thread, tie in with 2 soft loops; apply/release tension while holding on to hair to help it spin evenly around the shank, then tie down firmly

Spiral wrap to point above barb

Cross-wrap forward back to 60% mark

Tie in KF, fold back/tie down; trim even with tail

Part 2

Clean, stack, measure (tips to tail) another clump of pronghorn, tie in, wrapping thru butts to anchor hair; trim butts at taper

Tape a few more wraps to smooth out everything; dub thread/dub thorax (finish up about 1 eye width back from eye)

Tie in hackle at front (hackling back then forward gives me a denser, buggier look)

Wrap hackle back to base of wing, then forward; tie off/trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN. Yes, that little stub at the base of the tail bothers me.

Regards,
Scott

EXCELLENT ( on point) description ! Fly is cool also.
