What a great guy is Bill DeSavage! Iāve not been active on FAOL for awhile and Bill checked in with me today by email to see if I was Okay. Caring is what Bil, Jean and FAOL are all about, Yes, Iām fine, just not as active as the youngsters on the board.
FAOL and its members are the greatest!
Thanks again Bill. You, your wife, Jack, Mike (ohiotuber). Kaboom, Fat Bill, Marco and his wife, especially Betty Hiner and her husband, LF and JC and all those we met at the '06 Fish-In along the Au Sable are the greatest. What a wonderful group of people!
Thanks very much. Youāre all superb!!!
Bill
9 Days to go time moves way to slow⦠I am stoked!

Bill
The week will never pass. As a new fly fisher who has never fished for Trout I am very excited! Water is cooling do you think we might run into some Salmon?
I am running up to Bass Pro Shop to pick up a 8 wt just in case. God I love BPS
Tim, hereās a link to the Great Lakes flyfishing Co site. The river reports will tell you if there are salmon in the river later in the week and what is happening on the upper river. http://www.troutmoor.net/reports.php
Ed, you will be at Gates about the same time as the Idaho FI? Be thinking of ya. Those spawning brookies sure are pretty.
JC, Iām hoping to make their acquaintance. Iām also hoping to meet some browns bigger than what I caught up there last time. Iāll be thinking of yāall, too. I wish LadyFisher the very best on her recovery. I hope that she drags in a nice cutthroat with a Southpaw cast. (Iāll be praying for it. ). Iāll eat a few perch for you, if they are available.
Have Fun,
Ed
Gentlemen,
The forecast for this week has me a bit concerned. The water was just getting back to fishable temps, but a week of 85 degrees and dry isnāt going to help keep them there. The evenings are cool, so we could fish in the morning, but after that we may need to get creative. We may get into a salmon in the morning, but more than likely not, just not a lot in yet and they are mostly on the move, not getting real territorial and serious yet. We could check out some water above Rockford, especially near the mouth of Stegmen and Cedar Creeks, but we may want to head south about 45 minutes and hit the Coldwater. It will be much colder (probably barely in the 60s). We could bag the Rogue all together and spend a whole day on the Coldwater system. Not quite as big a water (I usually fish it with 7-7.5 ft rods, sometimes less, but never more than 8 ft), so we may need to spread out more. What do people think?
I was on the lower White (very similar to the Rogue for those who donāt know it) last night and saw very few rising fish. The brown trout wre actively feeding though. I caught five on steamers and one of the two I cleaned was full of crawdads. I would rather fish dries if you think the Coldwater will be productive but Iām sure we can have some success on the Rogue if we work at it.
Hey guys I am new to all this so whatever you guys wanna do is fine with me.
I am gonna be in Michigan Friday early afternoon staying at a Holiday Inn Express in Grand Rapids about 17 miles from Rockford. I am gonna get in town and stop in at Great Lakes Fly to pick up a license some flies and than maybe hit the Flat for some Small mouth. Get a good nights sleep and be ready for some lessons with you pros on Saturday.
I sent an E-mail to Bill he has my cell # in case he needs to get a hold of me with any changes to the original plan. Of course I will have my laptop and will be checking out the board Friday night.
See you all Saturday,
Tim
