I see that the Fish In page has been taken down, but I want to assure you all the the Michigan Fish In will be going on as planned. If memory serves me, this will be the 12th fish in. As usual, Gates Ausable Lodge will be the headquarters for this year’s festivities. Attendance has been dwindling the past few years, but as long as I am able to get to Gates the last week in June, it will be called the Michigan Fish In!
This year’s dates are June 24 to July 1. Folks, we keep things very informal. Bill and I will be in our usual digs, the Brown trout Suite at Gates. There is a big front porch for socializing and plenty of space to do some casting if the need arises.
Just some advise…if you want to stay at Gates, I suggest that you call them sooner than later for reservations. The fill up fast that time of year.
There are also may other places to stay in the area, from motels to campgrounds. If you need suggestions, shoot me a PM.
If you think that you may be coming, post on this thread so we can see who to expect knocking on our door!
I’ll be there! Already have my accommodations reserved. I’ll be bringing a friend of mine from WVA along for the fun. Get with me to discuss the social gathering and I help you with the planning and prep.
Just arrived in Grayling today. I still have snow banks around my house from the last big one a week or so ago. Looks like warmer temps this next week. The river is running very high as expected. Got here last year on the same date and had no remaining snow. So much for warmer climate change in this location.
Although , as stated earlier, I myself am not entirely sure , I’d like to see this MIFI notice be bumped to the top every once in a while to entice a bit more attendance. I and my wife have been to several and they’ve all been GREAT. A GREAT place to relax, catch a few, pop a few and share a few lies. I’m told that fishing “The Holy Waters”, at least for bragging purposes, is a bit like playing a round of golf at Augusta National ( well, almost :>)) In any case, if you can make it, DO IT!
That go for your Mark!! Missed you last year. It is a great river and I’m proud to live on a small stretch of it during the summer. The river is just waking up. Hope to see you all this year.
As somewhat implied earlier, I’m bringing the MIFI sign-up back to the top. We can all participate in the rebirth of "GREAT FI times " or watch them fade into the ether. Grayling MI is disproportionately reasonably priced relative to what the area has to offer. Were this area in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana. Pennsylvania etc. , most of us would look upon this as a Orvi$$ destination and priced above our means. It, however, IS an Orvi$$ type destination BUT without the glitz and associated expense. You can even get a hamburger at Spikes’ for under $10 bucks. Personally, the bigun’s are still only a rumor for me BUT that’s not what I told the attendees the last time we were there (shhhh!). You know, it’s a fisherman thing . Once upon a time even Betty H came down all the way from Wiz of Oz and Dorothy land. Those were the good ole days that need NOT end. SO, y’all, even if you’re just thinking about it, C’MMON DOWN! Free whiskey almost guaranteed.
Brad, as the identified leader of the MI Fish In, recommend you put the dates and host facility on the up coming events area of this site. Looking forward to seeing you guys. You wouldn’t believe the caddis hatch that has been going on the last few days. It has overwhelmed the Hendrickson hatch. The numbers of caddis has out classed the population of China with spades. Catch rate is going up as the weather warms somewhat. I think the late snow and freezing weather killed most of the mosquito eggs. I have not seen one mosquito yet. Of course, that is a delight. Everything about this year on the river is different. Good things are coming.
Brad,
I don’t mean to steal your thunder, but I took the liberty of place the MIFI notification and sign up on the “Up Coming Events” tab at the bottom of the FOAL BB. Marco suggested we put it on the old FI tab, but it doesn’t exit any more that I can find. Take a look at that TAB and see if there is anything else you would like to add. Thanks
John,
IMHO, you chose the best place to offer the MIFI sign-up. Thankfully the Events…etc tab gets NO action so it’s almost like a “stickey”. Hopefully no one will now post their grandmas’ birthday there thus again requiring a MIFI bump.
I’m still working on on arranging a visit with y’all.
And, John, being from KY, if you could obtain some “corn squeezins” to tickle , mine , yours and some attendees palates ( for which I’d happily reimburse you) our attendance would almost possibly be assured :>)
Brad,
“Actually” I do feel something comin on that will probably be a full blown illness, certainly by the 24th. Unless I hear from my good Lexington KY “pharmacist”/friend Elvin , I’ll have to depend on your stash for a cure.
