Michigan Fish-In-Please read and respond!

Well, it’s official, I’ve been approved for my disability by social security! We will definitely be going to the fish-in this year. There was serous doubt for a while because of how slow Bill’s work had been. The other driver quit so Bill has definitely been getting enough hours now!

I’m trying to come up with something for us to do for dinner on the 4th. I have to admit I hadn’t given it my complete attention before now, because of not thinking we were going to get to come.

I noticed on the “I’m going” list that there are not many names. I really need to get a decent head count of those who are coming so I can set something up. I don’t have a grill so I can’t really set up a barbeque, like with just burgers and dogs and stuff, so was thinking of setting up reservations at one of the restaurants in town.

Please, please, please, let me know if you are coming, and if you want to go to a restaurant, or if you have the means and the desire to help do a picnic sort of thing. I only have three weeks to get this going, and I want to try to make it as much fun as I can for everyone.

If anyone is willing to volunteer to help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

Jean;
I’m planning on bringing my 2 burner Camp Chef and accessories. If you remember we did about 24 burgers at one time for one of the Eagle Village outings.

Hi Jean,

I’ll be up there with the other half in tow. We’re camping for a couple of weeks and we’ll probably be setting up around the 22nd. If the numbers are low…there’s nothing wrong with hitting a restaurant if it will make it easier for all involved. My problem is trying to cook something exiting on a camp stove.
Are we still going to be using Gates as home turf? Are there enough coming to stay at Gates to make that work?

I’m not on the list…I just checked…so add Deb and Bill to the list your looking at. I don’t want to bother Deanne with that right now.

Jean, I’ll be there camping somewhere. Not sure just when I’ll arrive.

If my memory is correct, there were quite a few who made their reservations for this year, at the end of last year’s fish-in. I haven’t actually contacted Gates’ to see what the numbers are. We’ll be staying at the Woodland Motel again this year. We’ve had great stays there each year, so will return there again.

I will call the Lodge and check and let everyone know.

I just got off the phone with Jack, and I will be staying with him at Gates in #15, arriving on Wednesday July 1st, and departing Sunday July 5th. Too much going on with work, church festival and daughter’s wedding to be gone for any longer. I’ll bring my 2-burner Coleman stove (propane) to help with some of the cooking for the time I’m there. Also bringing a 6’ folding table to put the stoves on, and a cooler to keep perishables alive and well.

I’m not keen on trying to do the restaurant thing on the 4th. i think we can get away with a simple meal of grilled burgers and dogs, and purchase some potato and macaroni salads in town at the grocery store, along with chips, snacks and condiments. There’s nothing wrong with a simple meal, even though we are a complex people.:stuck_out_tongue: These are just my thoughts, but I will go along with the group.

Put me down as a party of one.

Joe

Saw this in Michigan Sportsman from the on-line artivle of 36 best fishing spots and times in Michigan.

They included an offer to e-mail the article, so I hope they don’t mind me putting this in as a teaser.

“South Branch Of The Au Sable River Browns
Warm, muggy nights in June trigger the famous “Hex” hatch. The big bugs bring the biggest trout to the surface. Listen for feeding fish after dark. The South Branch’s Mason Tract is famous for giving up browns topping 30 inches.”

Looky looky what the Dough god just received from Cabelas. I know Father’s Day is Sunday, but I couldn’t ask the kids to pop for this baby (Not at $265 ++). Besides, if they paid for it they might want to borrow it, and I’m just a little stingy whe it comes to my fishing toys.:stuck_out_tongue:

Saddle up the horses Deb, we’re heading to Wakely lake for some big gills and bass…at least for a half day.

I hope to get out tomorrow or Saturday to break it in and get used to the flippers.

Joe
