Also, remember everyone, tomorrow (the 15th) is the last day for ordering T-shirts! It’s supposed to be the “received by” date for the checks, but if someone has forgotten and would like to order a shirt email me today and I will work with you to get you one.
For those who have never been to the Michigan Fish-In, you have missed a lot of great fishing, a lot of great people and FANTASTIC FOOD! You’ll be sorry if you don’t come.
Tomorrow is the cut off for ordering T-shirts! Help us help others-Project Healing Waters, and ourselves-FAOL with the purchase of a great T-shirt.
May 15th is supposed to be the “received by” date for checks for the T-shirts, but if someone decides at the last minute they want one, I can hold off ordering for a short time so your check can get to me. I will send you my address if you PM me today!
Thank you to all those who have already ordered and sent in their checks, your generosity is greatly appreciated.
I guess I should keep up with FAOL better, I don’t have everyone’s names and handles set in my head! Heck, some days I’m lucky to just remember mine!
I’m sure you will have a great time at the Michigan Fish-In. Our "regulars are all great people and Rusty and his crew are really great. It is soooo peaceful sitting by the river at the lodge that I often forget that I’m there to fish, I just enjoy the spirituality of the moment!
I usually man the “registration tent” which will be set up in the yard in front of the fly shop at Gates’. There’s nice shade, it’s close to the river and I get to see who all is coming and going.
What are the dates you will be there? I hope you will be with us for the 4th, and our great dinner. Kaboom1 and Fat Bill cook up some great fixings, and everything is provided, except your beverage, and you might want to bring a chair to sit on.
Where will you be staying? We’re not actually staying at Gates’ (more than we can manage if we want to be up there the whole week), we are staying at the Woodland Motel, about 10 minutes away. It’s a nice place, great people, with air conditioning, a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and toaster in the room. We’ll be there from 6/30 until 7/5 and it’s only running us $270 for the entire week. You can’t be that, unless you’ll be camping out at the campground.
I can’t do camping anymore, I’ve finally become my mother (groan :>) ) and roughing it for me is a motel with a black and white tv. LOL
No matter where you stay or how long you stay we know you will have a great time in Michigan!
I made reservations at the Gates and will be there on Sunday afternoon the 29th and leaving the next Sunday (a week), I think it’s the 6th. I should be there for all the fun things, and like you won’t want to leave.
I’m stopping in Shepard for a night on the way up to visit a good friend of the family that I haven’t seen in almost 50 years. I was 12 when I last seen him, and now at 83 he’s having some problems.
I can’t wait to see MI. I’m originally from upper NH and I’ll bet the countryside looks pretty much the same as NH. I?m hoping to fine a little stream where I can catch some Brookies.
i need some help… this is my first fish-in so i need to know what to bring. i have never fished the ausable so i dont know much about it. any help on equipment-flies-etc. would be great!
Check the web site for Gates lodge here http://www.gateslodge.com/ for information on hatches and tie flies to match them. Some soft hackles or other wet flies and some attractor dries along with your favorite streamers should fill out your fly selection. There is some good warm water fishing nearby so if that interests you you will need your favorite bass/panfish flies.
I’ll be camping out at Canoe Harbor. I think we’re landing there somewhere around the 24th give or take a day or two (weather) . I have a Flygirls thing on the 27th and 28th at Wakely Lake. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the familiar faces and the new ones. It looks like the Hex hatch will be better timed if this cool weather keeps up. Fingers crossed!! If your camping …this is a beautiful area on the South Branch, not far from Gates Lodge or Wakely Lake. Now thats FUN. If you have a float tube…bring it!
Not to Disagree with my Lovely Bride, However(she must be having a “Senior Moment”), I don’t know about her but I’ll be arriving on Saturday the 28th. Guess I’ll miss her not being there till the 30th!
:lol::lol:
Bill - I’m in no way jumping in that boat with you , but I’ll be looking forward to meeting you and Jean “AT SOME POINT” around the first weekend of the Fish-in, give or take a day or two, maybe three.
Give a girl a break! I’ve got so many dates dancing in my head right now, (between my quilt guild’s elections, quilt challenges and getting our t-shirts done)I’m having a problem keeping them all straight. Besides, I’m a woman, it’s my perogative to be wrong, occaisionally!
No matter what date we arrive, I’ll be ready to say howdy to everyone, and to get my feet wet in the water this year. I’ve got my waders and something for my feet. Now I just need to get me a staff so I stay upright in the water. :>)
Just some of the things/scenes you’ll miss if you don’t attend the 2008 MIFI. BTW, there was some fishing done proving it can be accomplished from a bar stool ( well, at least, with beer in one hand).

PS: And GREAT food service delivery right to your doorstep at Gates
