Mepps still buys squirel tails

In another thread I mentioned that I remember selling Squirrel Tails to Mepps for spinners.
I checked the Mepps website and they still do this. There are instructions on what they want and how to send them in.
While I don’t take enough to matter the boys who live down in the hollow below me take a bunch as they are table fare. I will have to work out a deal for their takings and share the wealth.

Bummer…CA law prevents this

When I lived in IL and MN we used to have those great big bushy tailed grey squirrels that would have been great for tying. Down here in OK all we have in our area is those brown, scrawny tailed, just a little bigger than a chipmunk squirrels. Tho my nephew does shoot them for eatin’ (he’s from Louisiana and eats anything) and save me the tail they don’t have the length of fur for anything other than panfish/trout streamers on maybe a 10-12 hook.

When this particular nephew invites us for a stew dinner we either politely decline or doublecheck what went in the pot. I can eat about anything but wife is kind of squeamish about some meats and where they came from.

The actor, John Larroquette, was once on the Tonight Show, and when Johnny Carson found out that Larroquette was from New Orleans, Carson broke from the script and said, “Your from Louisiana? You people eat a lot of stranger things.”

Without missing a beat, Larroquette replied, “In Louisiana, if its fresh killed, we eat it!”

Carson almost fell off his chair laughing…

Being a native son of Louisiana, I can tell you that Larroquette’s statement was “Oh, so true!”
