This past Summer something interesting happened pertaining to my wardrobe. For at least 35 yrs my Mother has been frequently visiting the Red White & Blue Thrift Store near here. For yrs I heard Mom say stuff like, “I bought a brand new blouse with the tag still on it, for $2.00!!!” That’s nice Mom!! There was no way I was going to a Thrift Store! :lol: To the Present Time, One day I was invited to the Store by my Cousin & Mother to shop there. “This place has a LOT of clothes!” I exclaimed! My Cousin pulled a Hawaiian Shirt off the rack and she said, “This would look good on you!.” That is how it started, I now have six nice Hawaiian Shirts in my closet and the most expensive one cost $5.00!! Guys go to Hawaii, buy a shirt and never wear it, that’s where I come in! I found a Niche! :lol:
Today I was at the Red White & Blue and I spotted this exact ORVIS Shirt;

8 It looked brand new for $3.95 I also bought 2 Burma Bibas shirts that were like new and very nice, both for $4.00 a piece. I have priced new Shirts at $50- $120.00 and that’s fine for someone who can afford them.
You might visit a Clothing Thrift Store sometime and see what they have.

Doug, The Bargain Shopper of the Year!! You have finaly arrived at being “Retired” and on a fixed income my friend!! Ain’t it great the stuff you can find?
Jack,
I know WHERE the bargains are, but I’m just a beginner shopper. I am intimidated by my Cousin who flies through the Store like a Tornado! :lol:

Doug,
I have a friend who buys at thrift stores for pennies on the dollar and resells them on ebay. His average monthly sales are a few thousand $ and cost him next to nothing.
TyroneFly,
That doesn’t surprise me, because my Cousin buys at Thrift Stores and sells the stuff, at a profit in her quarterly Garage Sales. One persons junk is another person’s treasure!
Brenda is so plugged into what people are looking for, it’s amazing! I think she could succeed in selling on E-Bay.

Some people sure do have a gift for such things. Speaking of Hawaiian shirts, I am off to Maui next weekend.
TyroneFly,
Make sure you get an EXPENSIVE Hawaiian Shirt, with coconut buttons and in a few months when your Wife cleans out your unused clothing, I will see it at the Thrift Store.
Thanks,
Doug
Good Point about that fixed income, I have been on one for 23 years, no over time pay in the army, now that I have retired, and am on my army pension at 45yrs old it should be interesting,
have always shopped at the “thrift” shops… found lots of hunting and camping and most importantly fishing duds…
My wife makes homemade quilts from some of the fabric she gets there, she hates the 'Girly" type of quilts she makes mens quilts hunting and fishing and sports themes.
She also makes baby quilts for unwed teen moms, in this town and will be doing it in Lethbridge, when we get there at the end of the month… she gives them to the new Mom hoping it will give the girl some hope and faith…Man I love that girl.
A Picasso lithograpgh was sold at the Aberdeen Proving Ground Thrift Shop for $1. Antiques Roadshow valued it at $8K. Look for it in their upcoming TV program.
The local SA boutique has yielded me a fur hat, sort of a beret, covered with zonker strips for $.99. The strips are very old, but still quite flexible. Though I am not really sure what animal it came from. the fur goes fron white to gray, and has very thick underfur and very long spiky guard hairs. I also found a coat with a large strip of natural fox on the hood for $ 3.00. Unfortunately when I brought it home my daughter liked it, so that fur will have to wait a bit. :lol:
DShock;
Up to a few years ago I wouldn’t have been caught dead in a Good Will store. Visited one under duress and walked out with two brand new, name brand, tags still on them, men’s suits for $20 each. You’d be surprised, as was I, at what people buy or receive as gifts, decide they don’t like it and donate to Good Will Industries!!!

LLBean Gortex ski pants…new with the tags still on…$2.00

I want to thank you guys for your support! It took me a while to decide to post the Topic. The old Pride came to the surface, but I like you too much not to share. If I’m getting wiser and less prideful, then maybe there’s something good about getting older. I have to admit, the response that I received from people lately about my Thrift Store shirts, tickled me to no end! :lol: For example; A person says, “I really LIKE your Shirt!!.” One time I responded with, “It’s from the Red White & Blue Collection!” or, “I’m glad you like my Shirt, it was $3.95 at the Thrift Store!” Most of my years, I wouldn’t have been seen in ANY Thrift Store (It was beneath me!) :lol: and Heaven forbid!, I would have NEVER told anyone I bought anything I was wearing there!
So Life must be improving. One of my shirts I suspect might have retailed from 70-100 dollars new. I think it’s an authentic Hawaiian shirt, beautiful dark red background with flowers and no pocket. I have done research on Hawaiian shirts and the variety of designs is amazing!
