Melbourne, FL

Hi Gang!

I need some help. I’m going in two weeks to Melbourne, FL for few days. I’ve never fly fished in FL before. My fishing is for trouts and smallies here in IA. I wonder if someone could give some advices about fishing the fresh water there (I don’t have equipment for saltwater). I have a 5 wt and a 3 wt rods. I guess that I’m taking with me the 5 wt wiht floating line. Does someone know where to go around Melbourne and what flies to try for middle of March?
Thanks,
Martin

Malevo…any pond that you can get to. Go to Wal-mart and pick up a few Accardo Spooks, I use the heck out of those things. I fish a 5 wt with a WFF line. Bass, gils and other panfish will nail 'em and March starts the bedding of the gils. I’m about an hour and a half northwest of Melborne. There’s some really good flats between here and there. Too bad I can’t get over there, or I’d take you to Titusville and look for some redfish and sea trout.

I live in Melbourne! A lot of the local ponds are very low right now and mostly private. If you want, you can fish a little around Lake Washington, which is at the end of Lake Washington Road. Or you can go to the end of Eau Gallie Blvd. and fish the lake. The road is real rough, lots of FWD’s use the area, so it stays torn up.The area isn’t too condusive to FF’ing due to the brush.
Flats Dude is right on about the spooks, they work well, but if you are buying poppers,I would recommend the “wildcat” by the same company.
Maybe I can hook up with you, I have a bass boat!

Dude and RHenn,

Thanks for the info. I’m surely will love to go fishing wiht you Rhenn. However, I must arrange my time when I am there. I going for a Conference at the Radisson Hotel in Melbourne Beach. But still I dont know when exactly I’ll have time to hit the waters. I also must arrange with the wife…
If you dont mind you can send me your phone by email and we talk and arrange the trip when I get to Melbourne.

Rob and Duce,

What color of poppers are you using at this time of the year?

The Spook has its own…yellow and black and orange.

Thanks Dude!
I will get some when I hit Melbourne.
