'MATERIAL SWAP'

I posed a question before Christmas about interest in a material swap and the response was positive. So – ta da: Here it is!

Now, hopefully the rules and guidelines are clear. However, if you have any question, by all means, contact me as soon as you can because I don’t want anyone to get all fouled up.

So,here we go.
Limit - 10 swappers(including myself)
Sign-up date - By Sunday, January 22
Shipping due date - Materials should be in my hands by Tuesday,February 28th(gives everyone plenty of time to gather, package and ship materials)

Assuming a full complement of swappers, each person sends in 9 separate packages, 1 for each of the other participants. Each package may contain the same materials or roughly an equal value(you determine) of different materials. For example, I include among other stuff, 5 packs of beaver dubbing in one package but 5 packs of rabbit dubbing in another. Another example would be a pack of pheasant tail feathers in one package and some chenille in another. You get the idea. Just try and imagine equal quantity or quality($) in each package. Each package should be in a bag(zip lock or other), with a label listing the contents and your name. Please identify what’s in each pack. For example if you include a bag of several pieces of hair write on the back of each piece what it is: deer, moose, elk, caribou, etc. if you know.

The packages will be redistributed so that everyone receives one package from each of the other participants(total of 9) and mailed out right after the ‘Due Date’.

Since we won’t know the size or weight of packages that will be returned, I’m asking that participants include $4.00 to pay for US Priority Mail. This way the post office provides the boxes and you’ll get your box faster.

Again, if you have any questions please ask so you’re comfortable with being involved, especially before signing on.

Oh, do not describe what you’ll be sending in. Everyone can look forward to being totally surprised. I’ll post my addy when the swap is full or the deadline, whichever comes first.

Hooray. I’d love to get in on this one.

Yup count me in Allan…

Hey Allan, do you have a target $ value in mind for each package?

Diane & others,

Sorry, I forgot that aspect of the swap. Let me say this: I suggest that everyone put in each package what they feel comfortable with. I know that’s not an answer but let’s say you have an extraordinary excess of something expensive, say polar bear. So you put a decent size chunk in each package. While that polar bear has $ value, you may never use it. However, should you get a pack of cdc or wood duck, both of which you happen to need, you’ll be better off.

Maybe I should say that each package should at least be valued(say retail) at about $5. This is just a general guideline.

Hope this doesn’t muddy the waters.

Allan

Count me in on this one! Scott

I would love to be in on this swap.

Thanks,

My tying desk is buried by a remodel at home, but I can still get to the materials stash for a swap like this.

I’m in if you’ll have me. The last one of these I did was a lot of fun!

Thwack

In at #10 if I counted correctly.

Hi Guys(Gal),

This swap filled faster than I thought it would. So here’s the list of swappers:

myself(tyeflies)
fish’n Nick
Diane
ny angler
Micropteris
salovin
Mike Popick
gqualls
Thwack
Grn Mt Man

The due date for materials is Tuesday, Feb. 28th. However, should they all arrive early, I’ll redistribute the material and get your packages in the mail earlier. I will post as I receive each of your shipments. However, you’ll be in the dark insofar as to what everyones shipment contains. Not knowing what to expect and being totally surprised with what you get adds a lot of anticipation and excitment to this swap.

Oh, just so we’re clear, there are 10 swappers so everyone must send in 9 packages. Please be sure to include a sheet of paper with your return mailing address clearly written.

Here’s my mailing address:

Allan,

I’m obviously not fast enough! If you have somebody drop, or need another, I’ll gladly participate.

Joe

Swappers,

I forgot to mention:

If anyone signed on has a problem meeting this commitment, please contact me as soon as that realization hits. That way I can contact the remaining swappers to adjust their quantities or try to get a replacement.

flyfishmichigan - Sorry 'bout that. If someone drops out, I’ll let you know and you’ll have first opportunity to fill in.

Allan

I’m trying to get rid of “stuff”, not get more “stuff”…(except woody flank that is)
“Stuff” is why Allan is having this swap in the first place. Sheesh!!!

So let me get this straight…You put all the “stuff” you don’t want in a padded envelope and pay postage to mail it out for somebody else, who might get a package in return of “stuff” he really doesn’t want. Then you wait around until the next “stuff swap” so you can pay money to mail out the “stuff” you got in the first “stuff swap” that you didn’t want in hopes of getting more “stuff” that you do want, but probably won’t get the second time either.

Sounds good to me…lol

Hey RW,

You’re right. Try to get rid of ‘stuff’ and get more ‘stuff’ in return. Sometimes you get lucky and the ‘stuff’ you get you can use. Other times you get ‘stuff’ that remains ‘stuff’ and gets stuffed with the other stuff you have and don’t need. I have at least 10 sweater boxes stuffed full of stuff that I will never use and hope that some of the stuff I get doesn’t become stuff that I simply stuff along with the remaining stuff that I already have stuffed in those boxes. Whew!

Meanwhile, I have several hundred flies from swaps that I have stuffed into boxes/cartons that I’ll never use. Maybe there should be a swap of swapped flies but then maybe some swappers would find that they’ve swapped for flies that they swapped.

Meanwhile, I have to start stuffing stuff into packs of my stuff to make up packages of stuff so I can eventually send these packages of my stuff as well as others’ packages of stuff to people who have more stuff than they need and will get even more stuff that they can stuff into their boxes of stuff they may not use.

I hope you appreciate my explanation. If not … stuff it (-;

Regards.

Allan

Allan,

ROTFLMAO!!!

Allan,

Got the materials in the mail this afternoon. Thanks for hosting the swap. Please email me if there are any questions.

GQualls

Allen,

Package mailed out this afternoon. Should be there in 2-4 days. Sent an extra package in case you’re short something or someone drops out and you can’t fill a spot. All else fails, keep it and then you’ll have two packages of “stuff!”
Thanks for hosting; a little extra in your package for the swapmeister.

gquals, Gr Mt Man, others -

Not that I’m unappreciative but please please, it is not necessary to send me any extra STUFF. Kinda defeats the purpose of the swap.

Maybe after the swap is over we should start an ‘east of Mississippi swap box’ so we can stuff STUFF into a box and send it around a couple of times. Then send it to some organization where the stuff will be used. Just an idea.

Will post upon arrivals.

Thanks.

P.S. RW - Glad I was able to give you a laugh. Hope you didn’t break anything ROTF (-;
