Hi,
Wanted to share one more fly plate. This one of 3 flies Mary Dettes tied for me. I am especially enamored with their Coffin Fly. Provided a closer look at that one below.
Thanks,
Byron

Very nice. Thanks!!!
What a part of fly fishing history. Can you share the story behind it ? Thanks for posting from a big fan of the Dettes and the Catskill style.
If any of you want to see some more photos of flies tyed by Mary Dette, go to:

The photos in the shadow box are the cover of my copy of Eric Leiser’s book about the Dettes family. I had read a lot about Mary’s parents and their connections to Darby and others in the early history of the famous Catskill tiers. Her father Walt had passed away and Winnie was no longer tying flies. I contacted Mary and asked if she would please tie a few fies for me. She agreed and asked which ones? She did charge, but the charge was quite reasonable. I told her that I definitely wanted the Coffin Fly which I thought sort of embodied the Catskill Patterns and said she should tie two of her favorites.
I received the three flies which I put in the shadow box.
One thing, the Coffin Fly is so named because the insect it represents was often found in coffins…
Very cool story. Thanks for sharing.
Vince Marinaro tied the Coffin Fly using porcupine quill for the body. S
