Adding weight is of course always an option, however…
I typically fish the Maggot one of two ways.
Casting to a sighted fish, finning higher in the water column
As a (NZ style) dropper under a dry fly. The heavy wire hook is just enough to ensure a swift descent, but not too dense to drag down or influence the dry fly drift.
Hans, you have given us yet another fine-looking fly. Is this one that rates well on your “Q & E Index”, Quick to tie and Effective to fish?
I’d like ask for a rather strange favor. Since your flies, and therefore your name, appear with some frequency in the conversations of some of your readers and viewers, when you do another video, would you kindly pronounce your last name for our benefit. When I refer to you, I would rather pronounce your name properly.
Bingo! That’s what I wanted. Since Hans Stephenson has posted a number of fly-tying videos, I use last names to differentiate between them. I suppose one could say that neither of them has the “Hans down” monopoly on fly-tying videos…
grins…yup! I make it a habit to watch the same 3 guys for the most part, both Hans’ and Davy Macphail. Wonderful tiers that keep my interest peaked! I’m English so I understand Davy pretty well…if I listen! G
Cannot tell you how much I appreciate Hans taking the time to prepare all of the videos and the very clear instructions for his flies. As a beginning fly tyer, I find myself looking for Hans’s video instructions to help me when I am taking on the challenge of a new fly…the smaller ones really give me a hard time. Thank you Hans!!!
