As most of you know, I’ve built a new rod. Batson’s RX7, 7 1/2 foot, 4 piece 5 weight. I love the way it casts. It makes even this old man’s feable attempts look pretty good. I haven’t fished it yet and I don’t really want to till I can build a rod sock and get a tube for it. My problem is; I can’t seem to gather the enthusiasm to build the rod sock. I have just the right material and the knowledge to make one, but the initiative just doesn’t seem to be there. So, I’ve decided rather than to make a half hearted effort at the sock, I’ll wait till I’m ready to go to work. I’ll bet if I could plan a trip to go fish it, the initiative would show up all by itself. I just plain think that I’d be better off waiting till the excitement comes around, rather that build it when it’s like a chore. Maybe it’s the heat. It’s been way hot in Eastern Washington for too many weeks now. Enough rambling. I’ll post a pic when the enthusiasms returns.
Later my Friends,
Yep Joe, I hear you …I often let something go till I feel like it then it is more enjoyable…
I gotta ask… how do you “build” a rod sock? I thought they were sewed. Is that rod building talk…“I know Nooothing” [think German] :?
Sgt. Schultz was one of my favorites. He stole my line when he said, “I know Noooothing.”
You’re right, you do sew a rod sock not build them. But then again I call it “parking the car” even if I’m driving a truck.
Just Me, No Apologies, :?
Joe, I know what the lack of enthusiasm feels like. I have had a half built rod on my workbench for about six months. I just built a different rod and was going to ask my wife to make me a rod sock. I was at the fly shop so I asked and they are only $10, so I saved some wife points by spending ten bucks.
Horse hockey. If you wanted to go on a trip you could wrap the rod in a bed sheet, and use your enthusiasm for getting the rest of the stuff ready for the trip. Rod building and sock sewing are winter hobbies for me when I cannot get outside to do other things. Also, my business slows down from November thru January, affording me the time to play with my hobbies.
Don’t worry about your enthusiasm. It will come home when it’s hungry.

Joe,
Thanks for the encouraging words. They helped. Along with the ROTFLMAO img’s.
