Help needed. My daughter recently moved to Pacific Palisades and I’ll be visiting her several times a year. Are there some places to SW fly fish in that area? Any advice will be appreciated since I’m not familiar with the area. My thanks !!
Yes! You can fly fish the surf all along the Pacific. Otherwise, you are up for a couple hours drive to visit local FW lakes, or a few more to get into the mountains for Trout. The openers are usually sometime in May. Lower Owens river open all year (5 Hour drive) and take chains!
Visit: http://www.fliflicker.com[/url:c7488] to find out all about the local surf action near your daughters location. Tips on places, gear and flies to take. There are a few fly shops around this area too -FYI. You can catch half a dozen species on the fly there on the beach(more really) and we use 6-9 weights and an 8 weight with a sinking line (300 grain shooting head best) is all you need with 10# straight tippet of 5-7 feet. Cast out into the waves, holes, along troughs in sand, let it sink down, then bring the fly on in on the bottom in short strips. All there is too it. You’ll know when you get one
Tip: Go at low tide to see the structure and then fish the incoming tide. There will be fish in the holes after the tide fills them in. Any orange fly #6-#4 will get bit.Weighted eyes help. Try a clouser deep minnow in orange/white, olive/white, or Tan/White.

Flymaker2, My thanks for your response. Looked at some of the sites you mentioned. Good stuff !! More specifically, do you know of any fly shops in that area? I haven’t run across any but must confess I haven’t looked too hard. Any assistance appreciated…
The closest fly shop may be The Fisherman’s Spot in Van Nuys ( www.fsflyfishing.com[/url:e28ab] ) followed by Malibu Fish and Tackle ( malibufishntackle.com ) in Thousand Oaks then Bob Marriotts in Fullerton ( www.bobmarriotts.com[/url:e28ab] - one of the biggest anywhere if not the biggest)
