Hey all you rod builders!! I am an amateur rod builder. I have a friend who has a custom built rod that was built by Barney Sanders, a custom rod maker for many years at West Yellowstone fly store and Bud Lilly. The rod is an 8 1/2 foot Loomis GLX two piece 5 wt. The upper section has been broken about a foot above the ferrule, it is shattered and irreparable. I sent the rod to Loomis, but it is a discontinued blank model and all they could offer was a 9 foot 4 piece blank. Since Barney was a dear friend and mentor to both of us there is a deep sentimental attachment to this rod. IF ANY OF YOU HAVE OR KNOW SOMEONE WHO MIGHT HAVE A TIP SECTION FOR THIS ROD OR KNOW SOMEWHERE I MIGHT INQUIRE FOR ONE PLEASE CONTACT ME OR SEND A PM.
Did you get the tip section back from Loomis? I don’t know who judged that it is irrepairable, and it very well is. But Roger Wilson does magic repairing rods.

He repaired my tip section that was broken clean into two pieces about 11" from tip, making it one inch from a guide. This is very small diameter area on an 11’ 6wt rod. The butt side was cracked/fractured all the way around. He removed the guide, prefit a flexible piece of fiberglass exact to fit inside for a splice, prefit a sleeve to cover outside, prefit so no mistakes during gluing and setting up. Did it…then replaced the guide. Great work. Only cost me $30. I shipped it to him in a tube at $4.95. He shipped it back to me repaired at $4.95. Charged me $20.
WELL WORTH IT. If you got the section back I would definitely give him a call.
Thanks Gem, about a three inch section shattered and the rest is very brittle. It is only my opinion that it cannot be repaired. When I get the rod back, I will check with your suggestion.
