Does anyone have any experience with this rod? I ran into a guy that has a a 6wt. 2 piece for sale. It looks brand new. The finish is perfect. He said it hasn’t even had a reel on it. I don’t know if I should let it go by.
I have one of those GLX 6wt in 4 PC. It is a fast action and relatively light rod. It was about the lightest built in its production days. If you like fast rods, you will probably like it. I agree with Ree though, cast it before you buy. I do like mine and is one of the “go to” rods for bigger, windy streams.
fantastic float tube and nymph rod. handles weighted flys very well. casts off the tip like top 1/3 of rod. very light weight and that was premium for me.
It’s too much rod for trout IMHO. I’ve owned 10 ft GLX Classics from 4 wt to 8 wt. The 4 was only made as a 2 pc but the 5 to 8 were made as 4 wts for a short time before the Streamdance series of rod replace the Classics.
The 5 is the sweet spot for trout, perfect for dries and nymphing. The 6 for me is a more of as streamer rod or a rod for tossing big dries like the Salmon Fly hatch on the Madison. I own the 4 pc 6 wt and rarely ever use it for trout. If you fish bass, it would be a great rod.
As a 2 pc rod, it would have to be a very good price for me to buy it since it would have to go as luggage in most planes.
