looking for good inexpensive vise...

rotary?? regular??

I have a $5 clamp vise right now…it doesn’t hold a hook very well…

any suggestions would be great…

or any you have gathering dust and would like to sell…

Check out the Griffin vices they hold well and are not expensive.

Howdy Joel…Cortland sells a pretty good vise with their basic kit for about $25 for the whole kit. I believe the vese is made in India… or Pakistan. That’s not so bad, even Dr. Slick scissors are from Pakistan now. I have a friend who got one of those kits and I’ve used his vise. It appears like it will last pretty well, and holds hooks tight enough to probably break them off if you wanted to. I believe Cortland has a website, and you could get one online…Happy tyin’…ModocDan

What is your idea of inexpensive? For around $100 there is the Danvise so many here rave about. It is an in-line rotary type and used and sold by Al Beatty. Checkout his website for details.

is it this one??

True Rotary
Danvise for 80 bucks retail and I’ve seen for as low as $50

That is the one in your link

where have you seen it for $50???..That’s the price range i’m looking for…

I was afraid you’d ask…I don’t remember but really did…I pay attention to the Danvise stuff cause I have two and really like them…they are a sponsor here and Al Beatty gives you some of the best customer service there is…

Check ebay and the For Sale forum here and do a google…

You can’t go wrong with a Dyna King, Kingfisher for around $100.

Check Hook and Hackle, they have the cheapest prices on new vices I have found on the net.

Check EBay for the Danvise. There’s been one for $65 (plus shipping) the past few days.

Regards,
Scott

If all else fails I can get you a Griffin Montana Pro Vise or Griffin Odyssey Spider Vise for about $65 plus shipping. I have never put my hands on either of these, but I would think someone on here can tell you if they are good enough or not.

Other Griffin’s are a little higher like the Odyssey Cam vise at about $115 plus shipping.

Anyway I don’t mind getting one for you if you choose that.

Another vote for Danvise. If you check ratings by experts, it is consistently the best bang for the buck. I’m no expert, but I sure do listen to 'em!

pm sent regarding inexpensive vise.

From Hook and Hackle;

E-Z ROTARY VISE

Full rotary, ultra fine jaws for tying size 4 to 20 hooks. Double ajustment on jaws to hold all hooks very tightly.

 Item No. 9402001 C-clamp model. Each - 45.00

Item No. 9402002 Pedestal base model. Each - 59.95

Joel, Al also has an extension available that puts the jaws a bit farther out and away from the post. I found this to be an advantage, especially for smaller hooks. kgilroy

That looks a lot like the one for under $50 that these guys picked the…Zephr EZ Rotary Vise

Don’t know anything about it my self. As a matter of fact I only know about 2 vises first hand and that would be the Danvise and the Saltwater Traveler cam jaw.

Hope this helps,

I’ve been using my Thompson Pro for over 20 years

Good luck with your search,

The EZ rotary vise is really not a bad vise! Pretty darn good for the money in fact. My buddy has one and I tied on it a few times. It was a pleasant experience and feels more expensive than it is.

Just a word in for a option.

I just got my Danvise in the mail TODAY!!! and so far I love it!
