Left Tullahoma, TN at 8:30 am on the first leg of my drive to Worley, ID. It was 80 degrees and cloudy 463 miles later in Urbana, IL it was 59 !! And looks like it will not improve much for a couple of days. It’s snowing in the Black Hills!!
Tomorrow I’ve got a short hop over to Cedar Rapids, IA to mooch of relatives for the weekend then on to Mitchell, SD (this time I want to see the inside of the Corn Palace!!) It’s going to start warming up by then and be pushing the 80’s by the time I get to Worley by way of Gillette, WY and Deer Lodge, Mt.
FYI Worley is 35 miles south of Coeur d’Alene. My kid brother is the manage of Heyburn State Park so again I get to mooch off relatives! He and I will be heading down to Lowell for a few days with the gang at the Fish-In.
I’ve been invited to demonstrate furled leader making at the Sept. 18th meeting of the North Idaho Fly Casters and before leaving for the Fish-In I plan to shoot over to WA and visit Denny (it’s only about a 70 mile trip!).
I’ll try to keep up with progress reports and any good fish porn I run into. ![]()
P.S. This Sunday’s Chat Room will be coming from Mitchell, SD.![]()
By all means, have a ball, but, please be careful out there driving.
Jack, 5/6" higher elevations, melted off here in Spearfish. Back to 60’s in a couple of days.
Sounds like a great time is coming your way. Please drive careful and come back to Tennessee safe and sound.
Temps are back to 60’s in the Hills. Was still too early to see that fluffy white stuff though…
You live the charmed life Jack. Have fun.
Safe travels.
Well, I’m past the halfway point. Had some lousy weather getting to Cedar Rapids, IA but Saturday was very nice and we did some sightseeing (Yes, there is more to see in Iowa than Corn!!).
Today was a good travel day, clear weather and light traffic. I’m in Mitchell, SD and Cabela’s is calling my name so I won’t linger long!!
Tomorrow it’s over to Gillette, WY and it looks like more of the same, may even wear shorts!
Gas prices are a lot lower than when Kaboom1 and I made our trip. So far the highest has been 3.299.
So far the trip has been uneventful, I did see 2 MT. State Troopers trying to keep a loose cow of I 90!!
This is my last night on the road. I’m in Deer Lodge, MT and should be having lunch with my brother tomorrow around noon PDT.
Thursday I will shoot up to Spokane and visit Denny.
Also meeting up Gary147 who just moved to Coeur d’Alene.
P.S. Brad I had 2 scoops of Huckelberry Ice Cream after dinner! ![]()
Thanks Buddy…I owe you one. By the way, can’t eat the stuff anymore, but it sure sounds good!! Say Hi to The Old Sniper for me, will ya??
Drive fast, take chances!!
Brad
Tell me you’re traveling with that special rod rack kaboom used last year … a worthy site to see coming down I-90
I arrived yesterday around 11:30 am PDT. Another nice day for a drive.
No phone or Internet at my brothers so I’m sending this from the ranger station in the park.
caddisfly: The rod carriers don’t like anything over 60 mph so they are still at home.
Will meet Gary147 and his wife this evening at the North Idaho Fly Casters Meeting in Coeur d’Alene
Jack,
Be safe, be careful and have a great time. I eagerly await your reports on all the fun you’re having out there! Enjoy!!
We fished the Devil’s Elbow way up the North Fork of the CdA River yesterday. Not much happening until a small hatch started around 3:30. Caught 1 Cuthroat, lost the fly to the next and by the time I tied on a new fly the hatch was over. Will try and post some photo’s later.
Tonight the Chat Room will be coming to you from the back deck of the Heyburn State Park office.
Jack, your kill’n me with the pics you send, made the last one my new screen saver, looks great, your gonna keep it up untill I quit work & head west.
If you mean this one it’s not a cast to be proud of

That smoke in the background is from the forest fire.
You’re fishing for smoked fish? You always were clever. ![]()
Have fun and stay safe,
Ed
Jack is used to fishing in smoke filled valleys. Back in TN the smoke from all the stills fill the valleys every morning, or so I hear. ![]()
