my drag on the llbean orion reel is very tight… at the loosest setting. It is so tight that every fish would break me off, and i dont know what to do to fix the problem. Anyone have the same trouble?
do you have the schematic that came with the reel? if so, take it apart but do it on a table over a non-carpeted floor and have a cup or something to hold small screws and springs.
i also bet you could call bean, tell them this is striper season and it’s your striper reel, and they would send you a new one before you even sent the old one back
thanks dave, i think im gonna do that.
Always a big help here on FAOL
Thanks again,
Chris
let us know how you make out.
Take it back and get a new one. LL Bean has a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all their products. You don’t even need the receipt especially if it says LL Bean on it like the Orions do. All you have to say is I am not satisfied and I want a new one. That is what I did when I snapped the tip off my LL. signature 3 wt. They gave me a whole new rod no questions asked.
I once saw a guy return a pair of 15 year old shoes to the store because they were worn out. They didn’t even make that model anymore so they gave him a brand new pair of the closest current one.
That is the only reason why I will spend a couple hundred bucks on a rod. I know that it will last me forever. I am tough on my rods no matter how careful I try to be.

STOP! LLBean may have a 100% guarantee, but if it is a simple cleaning and lubricating problem it is your obligation to do that prior to sending it back. Sending it back is without doing that is the same s buying a shirt, wearing it until it is too dirty to wear any more and sending it back for a new one.
I suggest you do as Dave said. If that doesn’t work, by all means send it back. I think LLBeean will ship you a new one and then credit your account for the old one when you return it. I think I remember doing something like that in the past.

A buddy of mine told me a Bean’s story recently
He was having trouble with his tent zipper. He told the woman on the phone at Beans,
“I think I bought it from you, I buy all of my gear from you”
The tent was fixed at no charge.
“The trout were laughing so hard at us that they considered evolving legs so they could crawl on to land and catch their breath”
Dave Barry
But Jed you save time and water not washing that shirt.

wash a shirt? what does that mean?

I called them and explained the problem. It is a defect in the drag and they’re sending me a new one. I have a spair crappy reel so i wont lose any time (maybe fish). They do have great service, maybe even the best.
Tight lines,
Chris
Glad to hear it. I hope the strippers will appreciate the new reel and make it sing like the gulls flying over them.
Good call guys and good info.
Philip
