[CENTER]The LCF was tied as a crappie/panfish streamer for float tubing. It has since caught just about every species I’ve thrown it at. Exceptional on Crappie, it even broke into the world of Tenkara, dead-drift for trout.
Hope you get out, and by all means let me know how it does for you. It did pretty well for me earlier this summer on goggle-eyes on the Perkiomen near Oaks.
I really like the look of this fly. Now I’ve got to dig out my hen pheasant skin. I might also do a modification to black for might use. I’ll need to go a little lighter on the weight for some of the waters I fish so a wee bit of adjustment for some of them is appropriate.
I know I’m dredging up an old thread, but I have a question for Ralph. Have you tried these for Steelhead? Any modifications?
I’ve been been tying these on a size 8 round-bend hook. Like you, I’ve caught several warm-water species with it. I recently moved from Oklahoma up to Michigan. I’ve spent all winter researching fishing areas, species, tactics, etc., as well as tying flies. I’ve done a little research into Steelhead flies. I saw a video of a Gartside Sparrow, listed as a Steelhead fly. I noticed a striking similarity. That has me curious if I can use the stash of Little Crappie flies I’ve tied up for Steel.
I don’t see why not. I’ve caught plenty of trout on the LCF. I’ve caught plenty of NW Steelies in years past on #10-12 micro-jigs. I think they would work.
