Literature

Anybody wishing to look at or research the literature on flies and fly-fishing can find many very good and interesting books on the matter here;

These are all completely free downloads

http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=subject%3A"Flies%2C%20Artificial"

http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=fly%20fishing%20AND%20mediatype%3Atexts

as, among other things, PDF files, and complete texts if desired.

For viewing ( or indeed printing) PDF files I recommend this software, ( also a free download);

Of course, this is not all the literature, and my large personal library of fishing books notwithstanding, I don’t have it all either, But for many years I had access to a couple of major libraries, and some private collections, so I have at least seen and read all the books listed in the Bibliotheca Piscatoria, among many others, some in French and German as well.

I also have a number of specialist books and manuscripts on the history and development of angling with flies, the flies themselves, and of course a large number of ( but by no means all) modern books.

So basically, one might assume that I am fairly well informed on the matter. This is also why I tend to refrain from some discussions, as there is not really much point in arguing about it.

This is pure gold.

Thanks for putting this up Mike.

My pleasure. Here is a short list of some of my favourites from that source with direct links;

These are mainly on wet flies, but of course all the others are interesting too! :slight_smile:

All I can say Mike is Wow !!! This is beyond valuable !!!

It’s a great way for a lot of people to get many books that are now unobtainable or extremely expensive.

Of course there is a massive amount of info there. Takes a while to read it all! :slight_smile:

Hi Mike,

This is wonderful stuff. I knew that there was a lot of good material on the Internet but this is just unbelievable. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. 8T :slight_smile:

Mike,

Well done. Those links are wonderful.

As an aside, I just received a fine copy of Roger Fogg’s The Art of the Wet Fly, to go along with my copy of his North Country Trout Flies. I’m also eagerly awaiting a copy of Pritt’s Yorkshire Flies.

There’s just something about sitting by a window watching the snow fall, sipping a hot cuppa, reading a good book. Great way to spend a day (interspersed with a bit of time at the vise, of course).

Thanks again for those links. There is a wealth of information there.

Wow, Mike. You just opened up a whole new world for me. I don’t think I could get through all this material in my life time. I’ll do my best though.

I would love to see your library too.

What I’d love to see is a full collection of your Hazel Joe stories. Now THAT’s the way to spend a rainy December afternoon.

Merry Christmas, Mike.

Chris
