As much as love stacking calftail, I thought I’d give the new stuff a try; it actually compresses. Added the peacock thorax for a little more bugginess.

Thanks. A friend sent this to me 2 years ago and, stupidly, I let it sit in a bag in my basement.
Just about all the pronghorn I?ve bought commercially is coarser and the tips have been rubbed down/broken off; it?s somewhat soft, much more so than deer or elk and subject to wear and tear. This stuff has been a revelation; on this piece all the tips are intact and it?s been a pleasure to tie with; being softer, it can be tied down/spun with less pressure that other ungulate hair and I can use finer thread without breaking it. The hair on this portion is fairly fine and I think it will work on flies down to #14; not really sure yet since I just started playing around with it. I?ve got to remember to ask my friend to save me a similar piece from next year?s hunt.
Thanks for the pictures. Looks like some stuff I bought at Blue Ribbon Flies many years ago. It was brittle and easy to cut with thread if you were not careful. Didn’t get any of the white part, mine was light tan. From your discription I’ pretty sure it was pronghorn. Thanks
