Liljoe and I decided to hit the river today and see if we could catch some fish. We caught 21 trout between us and many, many bluegill and black perch. The trout hit Streamers, Leech patterns, buggers and Murray’s Stremph. The bluegill were very active on poppers and we had a blast with them. Liljoe is a lot like me and enjoys catching bluegill and bass as much as trout fishing. Liljoe managed to catch this nice little smallmouth which made his day:
The trout were healthy and lots of fun:
Here is Liljoe working a popper close to the bank which is where most were:
Even though I enjoyed catching the trout, catching bluegill on a popper is just hard to beat:
Good report Warren, you are right about bluegill on a popper or a popper and a dropper. But I need to catch one of those brown fish like Joe in holding in the first photo. Looks a lot more fun than battling the oak tree lying in my yard.
Yep, sure is! There are all kinds of poppers out there and they all work for bream and bass, but, you would be hard pressed to find one this easy to make and it sure does work great! I feel honored to have been shown this popper by the creator, Sam Blevins. I wish Sam was still with us and I really do miss him.
