I don’t think this is made anymore. I have a dispenser but don’t know if it’s for tying nymphs, drys or both.

I used to have a load of this stuff. Probably still do somewhere. If I remember correctly, it’s a mixture of rabbit fur and soft antron. It was advertised and used for dries, wets and nymphs.

I have this very interesting book which is in a three ring binder by Kenn M. Ligas. The last two pages of the book are color samples of Scintila dubbing which is/was in the BCS - Borger Color System.
Wonder if the dubbing might be connected??

MIght be. The colors in the dispensor are three different shades of hare’s ear, orange scud, green caddis, muskrat, black, olive.
According to their his web site, Wally Allen of http://www.ligasflies.com in CO is "[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]world?s source of Ligas tying materials " so you might want to contact him. There’s no mention of dubbing on the web site, however. From scanning past threads on other boards, looks like Scintilla was a Ligas product, but a different line.[/SIZE][/FONT]

Along with the Ligas Fly Fishers Manual on the bookshelves I have the notebook binder of The Ernest Schwiebert Signature Series of Scintilla color coded with the BCS & 85 of the original packets of dubbing.
Interested in the Ligas notebook? Each page is in a plastic sleeve. Lots of patterns.
Got the Scintilla dubbing notebook in 1994 to pair with the Ligas notebook & try to match colors to a Combo-Color-Selector that had a way of determining which color the bass would strike more times than not. There are 9 1/2 pages of dubbing.

what did ya find out about the bass ??? my guess is motoroil or bubblegum pink…lol
There were 3 rivers in the tri-state area & each one had it’s best color: motoroil, “if it ain’t chartreuse there ain’t no use” or off white. The Scintilla olives & ryachophila green blended with some antron & Mr Rapidan dubbing produced the best grasshopper body color !
Started lookiing thru some old catalogs to see if Ligas had dubbinv in addition to scintilla, or if they are the same product ?
So is dubbinv really the name or is that a typo?
I have a bunch of Scintilla and I remember another dubbing from Mr. Ligas that was just labeled “Ligas”. I don’t think they are the same thing but I don’t have any or the “Ligas” to compare.
I’m going out on a limb and say they are pretty much the same. My belief is based on the book I have by him (Kenn Ligas) has a couple pages of sample “Scintilla” dubbing swatches. Pretty sure it would be dubbing related to him and his business?
Read a a few words that mentioned Ligas dubbing being before Scintilla & that there was also Scintilla Caliente which had synthetic flash added to it; but haven't found a longer description of it in print yet.
Let’s see if I can muddy up the waters here a bit more.
I still use Scintilla dubbing ( primarily color #30 Pale Olive Brown, BCS 32 ) for some of our standard nymphs patterns, in the # 10 to # 14 range. Today though, most of what I use has been given to me by old friends and one kind member of the FAOL family ( Thank you again, Bruce ). Obviously a long term substitution for this product is on my "to do" list.
For my purposes, other than it’s color blending, the dubbing itself builds up & finishes out much like the original Paxton’s Buggy Nymph and Seal-Ex dubbings. It’s nice to see Seal-Ex back on the market again, even though I haven’t been able to find it in Light Hares Ears.
In front of me here, I have two packages of # 30 Scintilla dubbing produced years apart from one another. The material in each package is identical, the addresses on the packages differ, one being in Bozeman, MT and the other in Belgrade, MT. The product literature differs from pack to pack as well.
