I had to have biscuits and sausage gravy after reading that article. I can eat it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. But I still use the whole milk. My neighbor has a big dairy farm and I can get all I can drink from him.

Being from the northeast, it’s probably not surprising to anyone that I’ve never ever had biscuits and gravy but even I have them on the brain after that great article. Thanks!
LF,
Like JC, VEE and I do enjoy a fine plate of biscuits and gravy (especially with all the brown stuff scraped from the bottom of the pan).
I do prefer the meal made the old fashioned way, same as I like my fly fishing. Learned over time and savored all the more.

They seem to have some southern roots somewhere and JC with the John Wayne, which one would it be?
Northerns dont usually eat biscuits and sausage/white gravy but brown gravy, seems every where I go out west its brown gravy with everything, I wonder why that is?
I make it pretty much as grandma did, white gravy. The ‘southern’ is me, spent some time in Ft. Benning GA. Ex-husband was cadre at the Infantry School. John Wayne is just everyman’s model of a real man…for me too.
Too bad they don’t make movies (or movie stars) like that any more.

Diane,
I guess grits are completely out of the question then, LOL.

LF, try using the pan drippings(along with a bit of the sausage crumbled up) left from frying the sausage instead of butter. Also, if you don’t have biscuits the gravy is real good on cornbread too.
WarrenP;
We will serve Diane some Sausage gravy and Biscuits at the Fish-In. I can make a big batch in the Coleman slow cooker and just help yourself!! Maybe Mike and I can change the pancake breakfast to…?
There’s a truck stop on I65 just as you cross over into TN (Red River Exit) that used to have the best SG&B!!
Hmmmm! Mike & I can stop for some on our way home from your place!!
Don’t forget the Michigan Fish-In August 14th to the 20th. The Holy Water’s of the Au Sable await you!!

Nothing like a plate of Biscuits & Gravy (with ground sausage), to start the day, before heading out to the stream for some fishing.
Later in the day, top off the tank, with some home made Beef Barley Soup. This should keep you going until dinner time. ~Parnelli
Steven …
Beef Barley Soup …
Oh man, … you gotta have some of ours stream side in early October, … Leaves on the trees are red and orange, sunny skies, … but still only about 40 degrees, Soda crackers, Beef 'n Barley soup with LOADS of black pepper

for all you gravy n biscuit lovers or would be lovers (Diane) we will have a Southern style breakfast at the Au Sable Fish-in made with real southern Sausage gravy (some call it sawmill gravy) and some real southern biscuits. this is the real McCoy and it’s absolutely guaranteed to raise your interest in some real southern cookin. And being from the South, may have to bring some home-grown “maters” to go along with it…hehehe…and by the way, home grown fried green tomatoes are GREAT with biscuits and gravy!
LF We are from the south. My granny taught me to cook, iron and sew. She lived with us and told me I may never get married and I should know those things. She use to cook Ham, Sausage, eggs, gravy and grits every morning for breakfast. She use to make the biscuits with just enough flour left on the board to make the gravy. I still can’t do that one LOL. But I can make the gravy like she did. Always used the Ham or sausage leaving’s for the gravey. Makes it real good for sure. She always made Buttermilk biscuits. I still make them about once a week. My daughter still loves them and asks for them on her birthday.
I guess we all have things we love. Good on ya. Ron

dleo, I can see you are a true southern boy. Not much in this world beats fried green tomatoes.
Ah, biscuits and gravy. One of the more delicious causes of death known to man. Often referred to as a " heart attack on a plate". But, what a way to go?
And, I don’t care WHAT color the gravy is either.
Mark ( mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm)
OOOOH WEE!..
Sounds GREAT! Jack, we can just ADD it to the breakfast & we’ll make Leo cook! Also reminds me of somethin’ else we poor kids enjoyed long ago…SOS!! Some of the guys made fun of it in the Army, but to me it was a feast…creamed dried chipped beef on toast…many make it with hamburger now, but it is still one of those ol’ tummy ticklers.
Mike
You can call me Mike & you can call me Mikey…Just remember that this site’s about sharing!
Well that does it! I asked the wife tonight for some biscuits and gravey. You know what? She said she would make it soon! Thanks LF…
Hey Mikey,
next time you make up a batch of that SOS give me a call!! love that stuff. I like it with sliced boiled eggs in it too!!
Part of being a truck stop manager meant working in the restaurant as a grill cook. Hate to guess how many plates of sausage gravy and buttermilk biscuits I have served and eaten way up here in the north. I like S.O.S. too but if I never see another powdered egg meal again it will be too soon!

How many has ever had chocolate gravy with biscuits?? That put sausage gravy second!!
Leonard…
P.S. LF I’ll find the recipe I have my grandmother gave me about 20 years ago and email it to you… so you can try some (and post it if you like it)
