leader to fly loop knots

I am looking for a simple easy to tie knot for attaching a fly to the leader with a loop (for improved action.)

I am familar with several loop knots (palomar loop, double surgeons loop.) All of the ones I know seem difficult to adapt for attaching a fly, unless I make the loop large enough to pass the fly through.

Any ideas? I want this for attaching small flys (size 16-18) to a 4x leader and I would like to keep the loop size fairly small.

kengore, To attach the fly with a loop, I use the non-slip loop Knot. It is also called by other names.

I use this on streamers and nymphs most of the time.

Kengore, I assume you are talking non-slip and I think the one Bill mentions is also called the Lefty Kreh non-slip loop knot…it’s my choice too…

This must me ‘knot week’…
I plan on using two new knots for nymph fishing.
I just learned them this week, I hope I remember them when I’m astream!..

One is the one mentioned above.... non-slip knot;

the other, which seems easier to tye is the 'uni-knot'....... this one slips(adjustable).

                     Cheers.....

This loop knot should satisfy all the requirements you mention. I’ve been using the bowline knot for decades. It’s a nautical knot, but works great with mono and it will not slip or back out. It takes no more than four seconds to tie. I started out using it as a kid for rapalas and now use it for a loop on my tippet sections to attach to my braided leaders. It’s never let me down even once.

non slip

Just to follow up on my previous post, you can make the loop in the bowline knot as small or large as you want. And as I said it will not slip. The tighter you pull, the tighter the knot gets, with the loop staying the same size. I’ve tied this knot in mono so many hundreds of times and never had a single problem with it.

WWFF…

I don't believe he specified slip or non-slip, if that's what your post means!.....

Thanks for the replies, the Non-Slip Knot is just what I am looking for.

There is a knot known by the name nonslip knot or the nonslip monoloop knot. Also known as the rapala knot.

With a little practise you can easily control the size of the loop. Controling the a short tag end while controling the loop takes a lot of practice. I have not got to the point where I can routinely control both.

There is a female guide on this forum that routinely uses a double surgeon loop for flies down to size 32. She adjusts the loop to be quite small before sinching the knot down.

I have discovered that the duncan loop works well for me on the smaller stuff. After some practice, I have become comfortable with this knot.
