Report came in from a hardware buddy that the white bass finally came in to our local beach of LSC. Made the trek out there this morning with the anticipation of catching some serious numbers. Arrived and seen that the whites were waaaay to far from shore. The boat fishermen were killing em but i was stuck on shore. Not wanting to go home empty handed I began working teh rocky shores hopeing that the whites would get closer. They never did but the Laremouth, Rockbass and yellow perch were more then happy to accomidate me. Using basically a natural rabbit strip on a size 4 hook with gold clouser type barbell eyes I did very well, losing as many as i caught. Casting parallel to shore over large cement blocks in the water i couldnt keep the fish off the streamer. Managed at least 50 fish. attached are just a couple cell phone pics. hopefully ill be able to take part in the white bass run sometime this weekend
very nice! Hope you get a chance at the whites soon. They are just way to much fun on a flyrod to miss out on!
How many of those yellow perch did you catch? Last year I took my family to Michigan and we had some perch in a resturant. They were great eating and kinda expensive too! I would love to catch a bunch of them to eat! Is it common to catch them on a fly rod? Thanks for the pictures.
You can target them on a fly rod but they are more of an incidental catch. Last year i hit the channels up here with muskie and pike flys and as i was dragging the streamer from shallow to deep water over weed beds i noticed schools of yellow perch were swimming with the streamer hitting it. Tied on a small clouser 18" behind the main streamer and BINGO! perch after perch!
