I have been fishing my “home” lake the last 2 days. I did not have much luck with my fly fishing equipment. I tried a redshad colored plastic worm with 1/8 slip sinker rigged texas style weedless and started catching some fish around weed beds, wood and docks. Anyone have a suggestions on a “fly” similar to the plastic worm rig.

I’ve tried the purpetrator that I found at Ward Bean’s web site. Instructions are at http://www.warmwaterflytyer.com/patterns6.asp?page=15 . He also has several other bottom flies and jigs to try.
If you have clear water and weeds. Try a size 4 wooley bugger tied on a 1/80 oz jig under an indicator. The lenght of line below the indicator should get you to near the top of the weeds. Strip and set retrieve. Change up the speed of your retrieve until you find the magic. A rabbit strip leech is also deadly
If you water is muddy use black flies and fish on the bottom
We primarily used a crayfish fly And a variation of a rabbit leech. our bass waters are muddy

a worm from black yarn around a lead wire base. Just wound the yarn around the shank and the when I got to the bend of it, just twisted the yarn like the example for a damsel-fly in the fly-tying lessons on this web-site. Works pretty good for me.
