Does anyone know which company makes hooks (sizes 20 and smaller) with extra large eyes so that us old guys can thread the tippets easier?
Orvis
Den,
Daiichi makes a big-eye dry fly hook. The model number is #1110. They are the same hook that Orvis sells in the 25 packs, but it’s much cheaper to buy them by the box of 100.

Hey Thanks, now if you don’t mind, do those little tippet threaders really work and do they weaken the tippet by kinking the line?
Denny
Denny,
I love the threaders, they work great. The kink in the tippet is not a problem because I cut that portion off.

Thanks from me also. I like the big eye and have bought the Orvis for years. I didn’t know Daiichi made some as well.
Do you know if Tiemco is the only ones who make size 30 and 32’s?
she who dies with the most toy’s wins.

I’m thinking Daiichi makes those big eye hooks for Orvis. I bought some X-Point hooks from Orvis through STP and they are assuridly the same X-Points that Daiichi makes. I can’t see a company like Orvis developing an X-Piont hook on their own.
so…putting two and two together that’s all. Big Eyes (cool hooks too) and X-Points by both Daiichi and Orvis. Now Orvis is known to re-label other items they sell (know of some examples of this practice for sure).
Anyways…

Fly Goddess,
I don’t know of another hook manufacturer that makes those small hooks, but I have not used any smaller than #24. My #24 hooks are the Daiichi #1110’s.
